About the role
We are seeking a visionary Group Chief Learning Officer (CLO) to lead the educational strategy across the FI Group and drive transformative learning initiatives that align with FI’s ambitious growth objectives and increasing complexity. Reporting to the Group CEO, this individual will shape FI’s educational philosophy and delivery models to create value for our students, clients, and internal teams, ensuring that our approach remains adaptive to regulatory frameworks, customer needs, and market trends.
The CLO will focus on several key objectives. They will drive strategic educational innovation, overseeing the continuous review of our programmes to enhance the student experience, accommodate client and regulatory requirements, and align with financial goals. Technology will be a crucial element in this innovation, with an emphasis on incorporating tools such as Gen AI, skills diagnostics, data insights, and personalised learning platforms. The CLO will work alongside the CFO, COO, and UK MD to ensure that this strategy is executed smoothly through L&D, recruitment, and systems integration.
Additionally, the CLO will develop and implement regulatory strategies that meet the standards for institutes, Ofsted, ESFA, and other educational regulators. They will lead a nominee team, recommending process and system improvements to support compliance and operational efficiency, including alignment to SAR/QIP and funding requirements for apprenticeships.
Furthermore, they will drive both operational and strategic efficiencies to support FI’s financial performance, managing budgets effectively and maximising use of resources. As a team leader, the CLO will be responsible for fostering a high-performance team environment, clearly defining roles and responsibilities in collaboration with regional leaders and supporting team members’ professional growth. They will also promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within FI, driving a positive and motivated work culture.
Finally, the CLO will oversee educational project management, ensuring that strategic initiatives are clearly defined, monitored, and communicated, with all outcomes tied to financial and operational targets. This will include working with the COO on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, embedding sustainability and social impact considerations in educational design.
About you
We are looking for a candidate with experience in education leadership who possesses a comprehensive understanding of pedagogical models and their application and impact in different learning contexts. A deep knowledge of apprenticeship and commercial funding pathways is essential, as is inherent systems knowledge and an understanding of how technology can enhance (or diminish) a student’s experience.
This role requires strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to forge impactful relationships, influence positively, and inspire trust and confidence. Proven experience of leading high-performing teams and fostering a collaborative, innovative environment is a must. The successful candidate will demonstrate a blend of commercial acumen and intellectual curiosity, and they should be comfortable challenging and contributing to strategic discussions. Importantly, they will be committed to FI’s purposes and values and dedicated to creating a positive social impact.
Finally, the ideal candidate will have experience of HEI programmes and regulations, and an understanding of professional qualification training in a professional service environment would be advantageous, although not essential.
