Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB

The primary purpose of this post is to assist in the provision of horticultural and grounds maintenance services within Bath & North East Somerset acting as an ambassador for the Council in the course of your job whilst interacting with members of the public.

Key Duties:

  1. Planting, pruning, seeding
  2. Hedge trimming
  3. Grass cutting – parks, open spaces & verges
  4. Strimming, leaf blowing, raking
  5. Setting out and marking sports areas
  6. Upkeep of pitches (artificial and natural)
  7. Propagation and nursery care of plants
  8. Site preparation
  9. Manual litter picking and sweeping
  10. Emptying litter & recycling bins, and replacing liners
  11. Using electronic mobile devices to record work & log any issues
  12. Resolving any complaints as directed by managers

As one of a team to contribute to the general development of the Team and Unit both in terms of services provided and staff in accordance with the Council’s Vision and Values, policy and other objectives. Whilst doing this ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.

This role is a frontline operational role classified as safety critical, working in regulated waste management facilities. The requirements of the role governed by health & safety and waste management permitting regulations must be strictly adhered to including the Council’s Drug and Alcohol policy.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Good grounds maintenance and gardening equipment knowledge with the ability to obtain new skill sets when training is provided.
Knowledge and understanding of technical standards, safe working practices and legislation for service areas.
Understand our Values and behave in a way that is consistent with them.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
The ability and flexibility to work across and support a wide range of services within the Council and the ability to work with other partner or commissioned organisations.
Ability to make analytical reasoning and recommendations about particular areas of work.
Ability to engage with customers and contractors within the relevant codes of practice.
