As a Specialist Grinder, you will work for Westinghouse Electric Company at the Springfields site near Preston in the Main Engineering Workshops department. The Main Engineering Workshops grinding department supports the site with the manufacture of press tooling components.

Key Responsibilities:

Set and operate a range of mainly manual grinding machines to produce components in small batches that meet drawing specification and extremely tight tolerances.

Desirable Experience:

• Operation of Jones and Shipman 1300/1077 universal grinders
• Operation of Jones and Shipman manual surface grinders
• Use of shadowgraph equipment
• Use of manual Optical wheel dressing attachments
• CNC cylindrical grinding/programming
• Manual Bore Honing using a Delapena (or similar) honing machine and air gauge.

Qualifications:

• Time served apprenticeship in grinding/machining/toolmaking (NVQ level 3).
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a grinding role.
• Reading and interpreting Engineering drawings including geometric tolerancing.
• Manufacturing of components to meet drawing specification and tolerance.
• Use of measuring equipment and gauges.
• Working safely in an engineering machining environment.
• Manual Surface Grinding including operation and set up.
• Manual cylindrical grinding including operation, set up, clocking up, outside diameters, Bores, Tapers, Radii, chamfers.
