Hydrock is seeking a Graduate Sustainable Transport Planner for its Leeds team. The role involves supporting the development and implementation of Travel Plans, conducting technical assessments, and assisting in transport-related projects across the UK. Candidates should have strong communication skills, a client-focused approach, and a willingness to learn. Experience in data analysis, traffic modelling, and design software is desirable. An immediate start is available.


Position: Graduate Sustainable Transport Planner (Immediate Start)


Here is an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Sustainable Transport Planner to join our Leeds team.


Our national Transportation division currently operates out of Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton, Truro & London and they have a wealth of experience and will offer support, development opportunities and expert advice. Working as part of our national division, you will be exposed to a wide variety of project work and practice.


As a Sustainable Graduate Transport Planner, you will be providing transport inputs relating to clients’ development proposals and will work towards solutions which are acceptable to all stakeholders.


The role will primarily involve working as part of our Travel Plan implementation team, supporting the development and implementation of Travel Plans for a wide variety of developments across the UK. Working as part of our team, you will assist in the delivery of measures to support sustainable travel, and the production of communication materials to assist in monitoring the effectiveness of Travel Plans, including coordinating and analysing travel surveys.


There will also be opportunity for you to work as part of our highly motivated development planning team, where you will encounter a diverse range of projects, which will enhance and develop your skills in:

  1. Providing planning-stage support for a variety of development schemes.
  2. Supporting the preparation of technical assessment documents and reports for planning submissions, including the Travel Plans and Transport Assessments / Transport Statements.
  3. Supporting the technical assessments of junction performance using a range of industry-standard traffic modelling software.
  4. Pedestrian and cycle route design.
  5. General arrangement design work for new junctions and accesses onto the road network.
  6. Accompanying senior staff to project meetings and on-site visits.

The attributes we expect you to bring to the role and company:

  1. Strong written, numerical and verbal communication skills and a client-focused approach to work.
  2. Excellent people skills and the ability to work as part of a team, but can also immerse themselves into complex individual tasks, where needed.
  3. Enthusiastic and industrious with a willingness to learn new skills.
  4. Strong IT skills across a range of software, the ability to pick up new software quickly and a ‘can-do’ attitude to approaching new tasks.
  5. In short, someone who enjoys and thrives in finding solutions to complex problems.

Desirable and part of the role:

  1. Experience of data analysis, interpretation and presentation, in particular using Excel.
  2. Experience in survey development through Survey Monkey, Google Forms or similar.
  3. Adobe Creative Cloud Packages including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.
  4. Experience in website management / design through Wordpress, Squarespace or similar.
  5. Traffic modelling experience (trip generation and distribution methodologies, junction modelling etc); experience of Transport Assessments / Statements and Travel Plans. CAD design skills (particularly in relation to junction or car park design) are beneficial but not essential.
  6. Degree qualified in a relevant subject (Preferably with an MSc in Transport Planning but other related degree disciplines include Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning and Maths – although this is not an exclusive list).
