The Quantitative Research Analyst will be part of the Energy and Commodity Trading team. The Analyst will play a key role in supporting the trading business and study all data available to draw conclusions about how the market might be changing – finding relationships between fundamental drivers and prices.
The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background in economics, statistics, and mathematics, and will be adept at using these skills to analyse complex data. You will work closely with other market analysts to interpret data, identify patterns, and make recommendations based on your findings. The successful candidate will have excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.
You should be proficient in using statistical software and programming. Additionally, you should have experience in handling large datasets and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and apply econometric models to analyse complex data including energy fundamental data.
- Interpret data and identify patterns to provide actionable insights.
- Use statistical software and programming tools for statistical analysis.
- Provide recommendations to support decision-making processes.
- Support strategic business decisions by communicating the impact of analysis to traders and the wider business.
- Communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely to traders, structurers, and the wider business.
- Help build trading strategies and assist with decision-making processes.
- Develop price views by understanding impacts on views and positions.
- Stay updated on market developments and communicate trends.
- Study important market drivers by building models to forecast impacts on the price of gas and alternative fuels.
- Prepare reports and presentations based on findings.
- Work closely with traders, structurers, and relevant IT teams.
- Assist the Market Analysis team by improving existing models and generating insights.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Commercial thinking and ability to see opportunities in data and trends.
- Keen to learn about energy market dynamics and their effect on market prices.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely.
- Able to manage moving deadlines and changing priorities while maintaining flexibility.
- Ability to stay updated with the latest developments.
- Experience at a trading desk preferred.
- Minimum: Python, SQL (or other database-related tools). Nice to have: Bloomberg API, Rust, C#.
- Highly analytical and numerate with strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
