We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Graduate Engineer to join our Development Infrastructure team in Edinburgh. This role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times. We are ideally looking for someone to start asap.

Our Graduate Engineers form an important component of our design teams and have a varied, interesting workload, with a mixture of office based design work as well as some work on site. Previous graduates relished the real responsibility they were given from the outset. On the job training and support is provided by senior personnel and the company offers approved training agreements with the Institution of Civil Engineers. What does the role involve?

Working within a team environment you will be supporting development teams by assisting with the provision of a multi-disciplinary consultancy service for Sweco’s developer clients.

You will be working on civil infrastructure engineering projects including development schemes (Roads, SUDs, foul, levels/cut and fill, etc), land regeneration and remediation engineering (ground models, geotechnical and geology etc.) and assisting the wider engineering team supporting with onshore wind and waste infrastructure projects.

You will be expected to:

1. Work in a supervised environment on site and in the office ensuring that the technical content of work is acceptable and prepared in agreed timescales.
2. Report to the appropriate team leader on technical issues associated with project work.
3. Be capable of working on your own initiative, with appropriate supervision.
4. Work in close collaboration with other team members in other disciplines.
5. Understand and comply with the Company Integrated Management Systems (IMS) and take cognisance of current Health & Safety legislation.

To be successful in this role you’ll possess:

1. An undergraduate or first academic degree in Civil Engineering or other related discipline ( BSc or BEng ).
2. Graduate membership of the ICE with the aspiration to achieve Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.
3. The ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce design documents in clear English.
4. Good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, in particular Excel and also AutoCAD.
5. A strong understanding of civil engineering design principles from your degree studies.
6. An understanding of site works and roles and responsibilities during a contract.
7. The ability to work on your own initiative and to seek assistance when required.
8. The ability to organise and prioritise your workload to ensure that timescales are met.
9. Good problem solving / contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions to civil engineering problems.
10. The ability to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with both colleagues and clients.
