Job description

We are recruiting a part time qualified Dispenser for a maximum of 28.5 hours per week.

Minimum NVQ level 2 or equivalent in Pharmacy Services, experience in working in a dispensary or similar. EMIS Web experience would be an advantage but not essential. We will consider training the right candidate in dispensing and working towards their NVQ level 2.

Main duties of the job

This is a fast pace environment where you will need to provide quick, efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to the patients, and to assist the Dispensary Supervisor in ensuring safe and effective financial control of the dispensary, liaising with our doctors and suppliers as required.

About us

New Barn Close Surgery is a dispensing GP surgery located in Broadway, Worcestershire, with 3 GP partners and 4 salaried GP's providing primary care services to approximately 8000 patients.

We are a training practice for Specialist Trainee GP doctors and have a rotating final year medical student from Birmingham University.

We moved into our new surgery in October 2021 which provides us with a modern purpose built building to meet all our patient and staff needs. We have ample car parking for staff and patients, including electric car charging points.

We have a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, HCAs and phlebotomists, dispensing staff, care-coordinator, administrative and reception staff.

We have an onsite dispensary which serves approximately 50% of our patients.

Our close-knit team is committed to offering high quality, safe and effective care with a focus on providing excellent patient access and continuity of care.

We were rated as overall Good in our last CQC inspection.

Job responsibilities

Dispensing acute and repeat prescriptions:

  • Dispensing repeat prescriptions requests received via Emis, Practice website, by e-mail and those delivered to the surgery.
  • Updating patients repeat screens on clinician instructions.
  • Dispensing and checking of Dosette trays.
  • Ensuring the dispensary area remains clean and tidy.

Prescriptions:

  • Handing out prescriptions, collecting charges where appropriate and ensuring correct completion of patient section of FP10.
  • Collecting prescription repeat requests from the website, via email and at the patients hatch.
  • Sorting, stamping and endorsing prescriptions.
  • Generating prescriptions as part of the dispensing process.

Stock Control:

  • Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the wholesalers computer link.
  • Checking goods as and when they are delivered and recording generic details.
  • Returning incorrect goods to the wholesalers.
  • Stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method.
  • Removing out of date stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas.
  • Disposal of returned unused medicines in accordance with Practice policies.

Other:

  • Provide holiday and/or sickness cover for other members of the team as required.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with surgery policies.
  • Other duties as directed by line managers.
