Birmingham City Council Legal and Governance team is currently led by our interim City Solicitor and Monitoring Officer, who works with two recently appointed Assistant Directors in legal services and an assistant director of governance. The Council's improvement and recovery plan has been approved and work has started to reset and reshape the Council. Legal Services has a critical role in this engaging and challenging work and a Governance lawyer is needed to support this work.

About the Role

The successful candidate will support and assist the City Solicitor and Assistant Directors. You will be advising client departments in governance and other corporate or constitutional and administrative matters to ensure compliance with statutory duties and obligations and to protect the best interests of the Council. You will support the delivery of the legal service to the Council. The role offers a great opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders including elected members, officers and commissioners.
