As a solution architect, you will define and design technology solutions that optimize our solutions for rapid innovation whilst also making sure we manage risks such as cyber security and operational resilience. You will act as a pioneer, thought leader, problem solver, and be sought out for your expertise by product teams, enabling them to go faster, safely, and prevent solutions that are hard to change and stifle innovation.

In your role, you will bridge enterprise architecture and engineering and will own the design of multiple services, products, and solutions within the Knowledge & Design tribe. You will optimize against many requirements such as functional needs, quality attributes (e.g., security, usability), cost, and enterprise-wide goals (e.g., cloud and API enablement).

You document architecture views and deliver architecture artefacts required by the delivery process, enabling teams to maximize the automation in the deployment pipeline. Moreover, you will be a hands-on participant in architecture proof of concepts, innovation initiatives, and performance tuning activities. Researching and analyzing emerging technologies, as well as designing and advocating new technologies, architectures, and products in collaboration with system and service owners is part of your profile. The same is true for identifying risks within proposed solution architectures and developing mitigation plans, ensuring that solution architectures are scalable and sustainable for operations.

You propose architectural epics and stories to implement the architectural runway and clear technical debt, document quality attributes in epics & stories, and define acceptance criteria.

What You'll Bring

Education and Certifications:

1. BA/MS degree in computer or information sciences or similar field
2. 10+ years of experience designing and implementing business-critical applications
3. +1 year of deep exposure to LLM based business applications
4. IT Architect certification: AWS Certified Solution Architect required, Open Group certification (e.g., TOGAF Certified, Certified Architect Master)

Essential Experience & Job Requirements:

1. Minimum of 7 years of experience as a software developer, preferably in multitenant/SaaS projects
2. Work experience as a Solutions Architect in at least one project
3. Critical thinking and analytical skills to address complex technical challenges
4. Experience in conducting technical assessments and feasibility studies
5. Advanced expertise in major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
6. Proficiency in multiple programming languages (Python, Typescript, Java)
7. Understanding of software development lifecycles and methodologies
8. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and practices
9. Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
10. Knowledge of distributed systems concepts
11. Knowledge of current technical landscape and emerging trends
12. Ability to document business processes and system architectures
13. Experience with one or more application development and/or system integration platforms
14. Knowledge of and exposure to Azure and AWS application services, including serverless solutions
15. Excellent collaboration skills, evidence of building highly effective partnerships with projects, vendors, peer architects, security teams, and operational service lines, and engagement with senior stakeholders
16. Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects, at times with conflicting priorities, with a strong track record of delivery
17. Ability to estimate tasks and workload to achieve deliverables and goals, delivering on time
18. Ability to work with multiple external teams and accomplish shared goals
19. Demonstrated ability to constantly learn outside of a classroom environment and successfully apply learnings
20. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases
21. Understanding of data modeling and data integration patterns
22. Experience with various architectural patterns and styles (e.g., microservices, event-driven, layered)
23. Enthusiastic, high-energy individual; self-motivated and self-directed
24. Advanced understanding of LLM concepts (agents, vector db, graph db, RAG, MoE, guardrails, HITL, RFHL), frameworks (llamaindex, unstructured, etc.)

Who You'll Work With

The IT Solution Architect is a position within the Knowledge & Design tribe, which itself is part of BCG's digital products organization. The tribe manages and delivers internal software solutions and IT product offerings to worldwide BCG. The role will work closely with developers of the tribe and other solution architects within and outside of the tribe.

Most contacts are distributed across BCG's core hub locations: Delhi, Munich, and Boston. A large part of the work is performed virtually. The role reports directly to the Solution Architecture Chapter Lead located in Boston, USA.
