Position Overview:

The Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will be responsible for defining and executing a competitive technology strategy that positions the company as a leading supplier of battery technology in the UK mass market. The CTO will drive the development of innovative battery solutions, oversee the expansion of the company's technology infrastructure, and build a world-class technology team. This individual will work closely with the global executive team, customers, and key stakeholders to ensure technological excellence, operational efficiency, and sustained business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technology Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive technology roadmap that aligns with the company’s vision and positions it as a leader in battery technology for the UK market.
  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing global technology team, ensuring access to the necessary expertise, resources, and tools to deliver cutting-edge battery solutions.
  • Product Development: Oversee the design, development, and delivery of advanced battery technologies that meet customer demands and regulatory standards, focusing on innovation, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Innovation & Research: Establish and maintain partnerships with research institutions, licensors, and industry leaders to foster innovation and stay ahead of emerging trends in battery technology.
  • Infrastructure & Facilities: Ensure the company’s facilities, processes, and infrastructure are optimized to support large-scale production of battery technologies. This includes overseeing research labs, testing facilities, and manufacturing sites.
  • Compliance & Certification: Ensure that all battery products comply with UK, European, and international standards, including battery passports and safety certifications.
  • Commercial & Investor Support: Act as the technical lead in commercial negotiations and investor discussions, ensuring technical due diligence and feasibility assessments are met.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage technology budgets, ensuring optimal resource allocation to support R&D, product development, and infrastructure expansion.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, including licensors, customers, suppliers, and partners, to ensure successful project delivery and market growth.

Key Qualifications:

  • Education: Advanced degree in Engineering, Material Science, or a related field, with a strong preference for candidates with a background in battery technology or energy storage.
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of leadership experience in technology roles, with a proven track record of driving innovation in battery technology or a related industry.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading large, cross-functional technology teams and managing complex, multi-site operations.
  • Industry Expertise: Deep understanding of battery technologies, including lithium-ion batteries, and familiarity with UK and European regulations and standards.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong business acumen with experience in leading technical negotiations, supporting investor relations, and guiding market expansion efforts.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to navigate complex technical challenges and deliver innovative solutions that meet customer and market demands.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
