Are you an experienced & visionary leader seeking an opportunity to make a significant impact on healthcare services? We are looking for a General Manager to join our fantastic NHS Trust located in the stunning surroundings of the Lake District. As a member of our leadership team, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional performance, quality, & safety of services within the Collaborative. This role offers a chance to work closely with the Collaborative Chair & Collaborative Lead Nurse to shape the healthcare in this trust.


The General Manager will work across all Collaboratives to support improved service delivery. The services within the portfolio include:

  1. Pharmacy
  2. Radiology
  3. Breast Radiology
  4. Nuclear Medicine
  5. Pathology (Blood Sciences, Cells Sciences, Infection Sciences & the Mortuary)
  6. Clinical Haematology

As the General Manager, you will hold a strategic & operational leadership position, overseeing management of all patient services in the Collaborative. Working closely with the Collaborative Chair, you will be responsible for delivering operational performance targets, enhancing the quality of services provided & ensuring financial balance.


You will lead key programs crucial for the Collaborative's success, covering areas such as productivity, efficiency, quality, workforce, & clinical effectiveness. This role involves providing leadership, direction, & support to managers, while also contributing to the Trust's corporate objectives & the wider community.


The postholder will:

  1. Foster a culture, which engages clinical staff, & all other members of staff in the development and delivery of services in line with Trust values.
  2. Ensure that long term objectives of the Collaborative are turned into effective, affordable and achievable action plans for the development of the service.
  3. Provide a cost effective, high quality service via the relevant managers within the Collaborative and be accountable for the services delivered by jobholders who give direct care.
  4. Ensure the Collaborative’s services are delivered within budget and to agreed specifications and act as a resource and support to managers undertaking delegated roles.
  5. Develop and deliver an annual service plan involving a broad range of complex activities, some of which will be ongoing, agreed by the Collaborative Chair.
  6. Utilise & promote the use of all relevant information in making operational decisions, and in the formulation and implementation of service plans.
  7. Implement Trust & Collaborative policies throughout the Collaborative.
  8. Manage capacity within the Collaborative with the Collaborative Chair and clinicians to ensure the delivery of the required activity.
  9. Lead service reviews in conjunction with clinicians and managers within the speciality. Work with other Collaborative and external organisations, particularly the local ICB and local councils on wider reviews. Use improvement methodologies to support modernisation within the Collaborative.
  10. Lead projects as requested.
