Overview

We're working with a leading distributor of building materials, who are looking to recruit an experienced General Manager to lead and develop their East London distribution centre.

Reporting directly to the Regional Director, as General Manager, you will have overall responsibility for managing branch operations and achieving targets for sales volume and margin.

Sales

Key Responsibilities

1. Manage branch sales staff to ensure achievement of branch sales and profitability
2. Work with senior management to set sales strategy
3. Monitor daily / weekly sales performance within the branch
4. Work with suppliers on target product promotions
5. Accountable for achieving and exceeding customer service levels
6. Proactively identify changes and improvements to branch operations
7. Overall management responsibility for sales and operations teams
8. Strategic leadership - set clear objectives and provide motivation to ensure maximum productivity
9. Create a culture which encourages teamwork, ownership and accountability
10. Develop and execute strategic plans for the branch including short, mid and long term forecasting and resource planning
11. Manage monthly and annual cost budgets, seeking more cost-effective alternatives
12. Develop and maintain strong commercial relationships with suppliers, ensuring all purchasing at branch is conducted to the best commercial advantage
13. Ensure branch stock profiles are maintained to achieve targets for sales volume and profitability, customer service levels, purchasing strategies, and product mix
14. Utilise central stockholding and distribution to assist branch control of stock and to take maximum advantage of bulk buying
15. Supervise periodic stock takes

Compliance

1. Undertake performance reviews in line with company procedures
2. Create personal development plans for team members
3. Identify performance, absence and disciplinary issues and manage accordingly
4. Monitor the local market to maintain awareness of trends, price fluctuation, competitor, customer activity, and trading opportunities
5. Complete management reports to timescale, detailing performance and any remedial action as required
6. Ensure that statutory requirements in transport law is met in full, to safeguard the Branch Operator Licence
7. Ensure that risk assessment procedures have identified all and any areas of concern in transport and warehousing activities, and that remedial action has been taken
8. Ensure you are familiar with health and safety rules and regulations, and that your responsibilities as an employee, in respect of health and safety, are carried out in full
