Steele Charles are delighted to have been retained in supporting an Aparthotel and commercial property/ Real Estate business operating in Edinburgh, striving to deliver excellence in the consumer experience.


The business is self-funded and has 2 offerings in the portfolio currently. The first is a high-end apart hotel with 7 units. The second is currently under construction and will offer 20-24 high-end units and an FandB offering.


The business and the projects are fully self-funded by the principals and has ambitious growth targets.


Reporting directly into the Managing Director, the business seeks to bring on board a General Manager to focus on exceptional management and customer experience. The individual will work across all properties as well as contributing to general business management.


The General Manager should have a passion for customer experience and sales, taking initial responsibility for the full oversight and management of the 7 unit facility.


The exciting prospect in this offering is that the role is also expected to assist with the pre-opening activities as required for the second larger facility and other general management matters on behalf of the business. Key responsibilities include:


  1. Responsible for exceptional customer experience, striving for top grade rating and review with every visitor.
  2. Revenue management dealing with rates setting, bookings, platform management, customer interface.
  3. Create, implement and monitor standard operating procedures to maintain high service standards.
  4. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  5. Operational interface and cost management with key suppliers and staff - cleaning, laundry, utilities, maintenance, welcome packs.
  6. Social media management, driving brand reputation through content creation, influencer engagement and other relevant mechanisms.
  7. Basic accounting processing and booking all sales ledger and purchase ledger inputs.
  8. Periodic financial reporting at both asset and group level - performance, cash flow, EBITDA, etc.
  9. Enhanced revenue creation, building innovative new sales channels through partnerships and customer experience offerings.
  10. Reporting to the Managing Director on sales, operations, and overall financial performance.
  11. Responsibility for supporting the running and management of the central business.

Key Skills & Experience


  1. A strong interest and understanding of hotel, serviced apartment, short term accommodation market including key value drivers.
  2. Experience in consumer facing roles, delivering exceptional customer experience.
  3. Creative thinker with the ability to think outside the box and challenge the norm.
  4. Strong communication skills.
  5. Highly organised, capable of managing multiple workstreams and external suppliers in parallel.
  6. An independent self-starter with the ability to manage your schedule without extensive oversight and involvement from Directors.
  7. Strong social media skills with knowledge of content creation and driving follower engagement.
  8. Proficient in Microsoft office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  9. Proficiency in hotel management software and systems.
  10. Being 'in the know' on local goings-on and inspiring guests with new ideas.

The General Manager should be comfortable with a flexible working schedule, with an expectation that customer queries & management will require response during evenings and weekends. The principals acknowledge that this flexibility will come with a significant level of trust and autonomy in managing the successful candidate's time.
