What makes us different?

This is the only scheme that will allow you to work across the business. It is pan-TfL – you can move from government relations to finance, working on stations to HR.

£31,000, rising to £32,250 in the second year.

Location

London/ Hybrid

50% of time split between the office/on-site and remote working over a 4-week period, with some variation subject to business requirements.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 2:2 degree in any discipline.

Please be advised that should you be successful in getting an offer for this graduate scheme, your offer will be subject to a satisfactory medical which may include a drugs and alcohol screening. You will also be subject to an eye test and hearing test, the results of which may impact operational duties. Reasonable adjustments will be put in place if required.

Sustainability

Sustainability is intrinsic to TfL’s work ethos, and we ensure that we operate in a sustainable way to protect and regenerate the natural world. During the graduate scheme, you will complete Carbon Literacy training and can become a trainer yourself. You’ll also be able to complete placements that help deliver our green strategy and ensure TfL is a strong, green heartbeat for London.

What will I be doing?

Your two-year development programme will be made up of up to four placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for a successful career. We also understand that everyone’s career is different, so every graduate’s journey is unique.

The scheme structure is as follows:

  1. You will start with a 4-week operational placement on London Underground
  2. This is followed by a 6-month office-based placement that is arranged for you
  3. You will then have a 4-week surface operational placement, such as working on river boats or supporting our policing colleagues to ensure the security of our network

You have flexibility to tailor your scheme to your interests, career aspirations and development ambitions, so subsequent placements are decided by you. Here are some examples of business areas previous graduates have had placements:

What training and support will you get?

Our award-winning teams will support your ongoing development, through a wide range of on-the-job practical experience and placements. We'll support your professional development through a combination of training, mentoring, and networking. We’ll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences. We’ll also support your professional development through a combination of mentoring, networking with scheme alumni and a qualification in Project Management.

To help you achieve your leadership potential, each graduate is supported by a:

  1. Development advisor from HR who supports your career progression at TfL
  2. Sponsor to discuss your performance and wellbeing throughout your scheme

Depending on the placements you could work a variation of hours, including shifts, which may include night shifts for operational placements.

Application Process

The application process consists of 5 steps, including online assessments which will need to be completed within an allocated time frame. We highly recommend that you read through this document thoroughly so that you can familiarise yourself with the process.

If you already hold your qualification certificates, please upload copies of these to your application. If you are due to sit final exams or need to replace any certificates, these can be provided at a later stage.
