JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • As a newly created role, you will run the startup legal matters.
  • Represent the company in court.
  • Convey legal advice to company executives and manage the legal team, communicate and oversee compliance regulations with regulatory authorities and government agencies.
  • As our GC, you’ll focus on managing the company’s legal compliance and corporate governance, drafting, reviewing, and advising on a broad range of commercial contracts and agreements.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • 20+ years of executive-level leadership as in-house general counsel with a strong grasp on enterprise risk management.
  • An extensive proven record in publicly traded companies & pre-IPO’s.
  • Be culture fit and the ability to act as a reliable advisor during high-stress situations.
  • A dynamic leader from diverse backgrounds, interacting with corporate leadership and outside clients regularly.
  • Be humble; at the end of the day, the legal function is a support function.
  • A reputation for making the right calls and connecting the dots with limited information.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As our GC, you will be involved in important drafting of vendor contracts, employee contracts, contract negotiations, and advising on a broad range of commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Help steer the boat, connect with others, and become a well-trusted advisor to business insights and strategic know-how.
  • Balance the legal aspects of the company while monitoring the repercussions and risks associated with new business moves.
  • Flag the legal risk of new ventures but also place this decision in the bigger context of the startup.
  • View legal aspects of the startup decision through the lens of running a successful business.
  • Monitor legal changes that affect the startup or the business' industry.
  • Develop curriculum to convey legal matters to employees.
  • Oversee the hiring of internal and external legal teams and manage compliance issues.
  • Advise top executives on legal matters.
  • Form relationships and maintain consistent lines of communication with key executives inside the company.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hybrid working with a minimum of one day a week in the office.
  • Exposure to FinTech, data protection, compliance, and regulation.
  • Executive-level experience in highly regulated industries, e.g., aerospace and defense industries.
  • A senior-level lawyer UK qualified or equivalent.
