Job description

About the Role

DP World in the UK is at the heart of Britain’s trading future, providing the right trading infrastructure, smart logistical solutions and the benefits of freeport status to our customers. An excellent opportunity has opened within our Operations team for a Gate Team Leader.

Reporting to the Landside Superintendent, our ideal candidate will manage all gate activities, including haulier management, VBS operations and marshalling, while supporting the Landside Superintendent. They will lead and develop gate activities at London Gateway to maximise efficiency, ensure safety compliance and build strong relationships with stakeholders.

Location: Stanford Le Hope

Hours: Monday – Friday – 9am – 5.30pm

How you will contribute:

  • Lead and manage the Gate Operation and Gate Team, including Gate Coordinators & VBS Staff.
  • Manage both outside and inside operations, focusing on congestion in the modules and marshal issues.
  • Support landside operations while ensuring safety compliance.
  • Oversee operations on a shift-by-shift basis, ensuring smooth transitions and continuous efficiency.
  • Identify and address operational issues, including traffic congestion, using available systems and resources with a proactive approach.
  • Responsible for the processing of vehicles in and out of the terminals, including vehicle registration.
  • Supervise all gate activities, including tally checking and marshalling, to ensure efficient and accurate operations.
  • Ensure all staff are fully trained on new systems and processes.
  • Conduct investigations into any safety issues and implement necessary improvements.
  • Train and develop all Gate and VBS staff, including building a succession plan.
  • Participate in the development and training of all existing and new gate-related systems, processes, and procedures.

What you will bring:

  • Having a good understanding of container operations is highly desirable.
  • Comfortable working in a busy environment with multiple roles and responsibilities.
  • Experience in managing relationships with customers and third parties.
  • Proven experience in a middle management role.
  • Capable of making clear and decisive decisions.
  • Skilled in engaging, empowering and motivating team members.
  • Willing and able to step in and perform various roles as needed.
  • Ensure all operations are in order before leaving, with the shift team managing effectively in your absence.
  • The ability to work with resilience and positivity under pressure and in a fast paced, changeable environment.
  • Hold the right to work in the UK.
  • Have a full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work in a safety critical environment.
  • Excellent Health, Safety, Security knowledge and understanding.

  • Due to manufacturing guidelines on equipment and site safety critical health and safety requirements, we have strict weight and medical requirements that need to be met and maintained. For our safety critical roles health and medical and fitness checks are performed. Requirements include, but are not limited to, weight, height, blood pressure and hearing.
  • We may close our roles early, depending on the number of applications received.
