Astute's Power Team are working with a leading International Power Generation company who require a Gas Turbine Technical Head to join the Gas Turbine Services Division.

As the Gas Turbine Technical Head you will be acting as Technical Authority for all Gas Turbine competencies across the fleet, including assets across the UK, Netherlands, Germany and Sweden. The role includes providing expert input into the Gas Turbine strategy to maximise asset availability and reliability.

Responsibilities and duties of the Gas Turbine Technical Head role

Reporting to the Head of Strategic Technical Services, you will be responsible for:

1. Deliver expert technical consultancy on gas turbine assets, supporting everything from new-build specifications to ongoing maintenance, inspection, repair, and replacement strategies.
2. Prepare and approve detailed technical reports, both for your own work and for reports generated by other teams, ensuring high standards of gas turbine engineering insight.
3. Lead the technical development of colleagues through coaching, mentoring, and scheduled competency assessments.
4. Review and evaluate third-party proposals for modifications and upgrades, covering both new and retrofit gas turbine installations.
5. Offer specialist input into plant enhancement initiatives, including projects focused on flexible operation, rapid start-up capabilities, and damage mitigation.
6. Champion the development of innovative and enhanced service offerings for gas turbine plant operations.
7. Make informed recommendations on the safe return to service of gas turbine units following the discovery of unexpected deterioration or damage.
8. Provide robust technical support in failure investigations and root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement.
9. Play an active role in R&D initiatives and the development of forward-thinking concepts in gas turbine technology.
10. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, fostering strong working relationships with both internal stakeholders and external technical experts.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

1. Chartered membership or equivalent accreditation, of a relevant institution or be a UK/Internationally recognised technical expert
2. Degree qualified with a relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification

Personal skills

The Gas Turbine Technical Head role would suit someone who has:

1. Extensive technical experience in the areas described working with a gas turbine original equipment manufacturer, having a background in gas turbine equipment design and development
2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to establish and nurture effective working relationships, internally and externally, with the capability to effectively explain complex technical issues in simple language
3. The ability to effectively plan, manage and deliver a portfolio of projects to time, cost and quality, both independently and within a team
4. Ability to motivate, challenge, and inspire individuals to deliver high performance;
5. Familiarity with small power generation and aeroderivative gas turbines;
6. Familiarity with equipment and technologies used for inspection and assessment of gas turbines and associated hardware;
7. Experience in performance testing and/or data analysis of gas turbine;
8. Willingness to travel and provide support on site;
