Commodity Insights is looking for a European gas analyst to contribute to its EMEA gas analysis and forecasting services, delivered under their market-leading product line. This exciting role will be in a team producing price forecasts, writing forward-looking market commentary, and developing analytical tools, research, and models. The role will leverage your quantitative, modelling, and communication skills to develop European and Global Gas market insight.

The Impact:

Commodity Insights is a global team responsible for analysing, interpreting, and forecasting all global energy commodities markets and prices. Our customers represent a wide range of activities across the energy and investment communities, and our analysis contributes to key strategic decisions made in the industry. You will play a key role in supporting Commodity Insights' services and could also contribute to developing these services into major new growth areas.

The Career Opportunity:

This role has significant potential for rapid development. You will be a key input into Commodity Insights' EMEA gas and power analysis service and its development as part of an integrated, cross-commodity global analysis offering, with a time horizon focus on the next three years. Additionally, there will be ample opportunity to contribute to an established global brand and participate in customer-facing activities, including meetings, webinars, and (in time) conference presentations.

The Team / The Business:

You will be part of the EMEA Gas and Power Analytics team of specialists with outstanding knowledge of European and global gas, power, carbon, and renewable fuel markets. The team works closely with global gas and LNG teams, with whom collaboration is essential.

Accountabilities:

Be an expert

  • Analyse the drivers that set the value of natural gas in Europe and links with global markets.
  • Spot and identify emerging trends early and, where possible, anticipate market movements.
  • Build on understanding of natural gas trading, modelling, and forecasting of demand, supply, and price.
  • Constantly update market knowledge including price movements, trade-flows, trading behaviour, policy and regulatory developments.
  • Research, collect, organize, standardize, process, and analyse gas market data.
  • Develop and adhere to independent, transparent methodology for all analytical processes.
  • Demonstrate a dynamic approach to learning and a passion for the natural gas industry.

Communicate expertise

  • Assist clients in making better-informed trading, risk management, and investment decisions by:
    • Creating and delivering succinct, high-quality, accurate, and timely written content in the form of reports and presentations.
    • Creating charts and other visually valuable content that illustrates key market trends.
    • Meeting with clients and prospects, in person or virtually (occasional travel, restrictions permitting).

Innovate

  • Build internal relationships at Commodity Insights to generate ideas for integrating pricing content with fundamental data.
  • Use competitive intelligence to stay ahead.
  • Work with Commodity Insights' technology teams to develop robust databases, products, and tools.

Lead

  • Challenge processes and status quo, and be prepared to place your footprint on the organization.
  • Exhibit best practice behaviours in all business activities to uphold ethical and business standards.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong quantitative background.
  • An interest in the energy industry and aptitude for problem-solving is imperative.
  • Experience in analysing natural gas or closely related markets (such as power or LNG) in commercial or consulting environments is beneficial.
  • Experience in other energy commodity markets such as LNG, power, coal, and oil is highly advantageous.
  • Self-driven, naturally curious, with excellent team and communication skills, eager to grow into a commodity expert.
  • Strong Excel skills are required. Experience with data handling or scripting such as SQL, Python, Matlab, VBA, SAS, or cube data structure would be useful.
  • Verbal and written fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of other European languages is helpful.
