Gardener / Garden and Grounds Maintenance Operative with previous gardening grounds maintenance experience, using garden and large estate machinery such as a ride on mower, strimmer and tractor, who has excellent interpersonal skills, and a flexible and enthusiastic approach is required for a well-established company based in Cambridge.

SALARY: £26,000 - £28,000 per annum + Excellent Benefits (see below)

LOCATION: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire (CB22)

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 37 hours per week (On-Call schedule for winter months)

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Gardener / Garden and Grounds Maintenance Operative with previous gardening grounds maintenance experience, using garden and large estate machinery such as a ride on mower, strimmer and tractor, who has excellent interpersonal skills, and a flexible and enthusiastic approach.

As a Gardener / Garden and Grounds Maintenance Operative you will be based in a 430-acre parkland estate and will be working within a team who are responsible for maintaining and managing the formal gardens and landscape of the site, ensuring that a complete maintenance service to the Estate is provided.

Working as a Gardener / Garden and Grounds Maintenance Operative you will use a variety of garden and grounds machinery in order to maintain soft and hard landscape areas, which includes general estate maintenance including trees, fencing and conservation.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Gardener / Garden and Grounds Maintenance Operative will include:

  1. Provide seasonal maintenance of the estate in accordance with the programme of works as directed by the Grounds & Gardens Manager and developed from the management plan
  2. Tasks to include grass cutting, weeding, planting, watering, leaf collecting, hedge cutting, path edging, road sweeping, gritting, waste
  3. Use and maintenance of a range of garden and grounds machinery (e.g. ride-on, walk-behind mowers, tractors etc.) as necessary and undertaking of specialist training where required
  4. Formative and rejuvenative maintenance of deciduous and evergreen trees, shrubs, climbers and hedges
  5. Support line management in maintaining health and safety in the grounds and gardens to ensure the safety of staff and visitors
  6. Maintenance of hard landscaped areas, roads and pathways
  7. Training for the appropriate, timely and safe use of pesticides and herbicides
  8. General estate maintenance including trees, fencing and conservation etc
  9. As and when required, assist the Waste Team with the collection of waste
  10. During the winter months (November – April) the post-holder will be required to be on-call in order to respond to adverse weather conditions. Duties whilst on call, will include: snow clearing and salting/gritting on paths, car parks, roads and building access areas as and when required
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
  1. Current valid full driving licence
  2. P.A.1 / P.A.6 Spraying
  3. Previous experience of working either in grounds maintenance or as a gardener.
  4. Experience of using garden machinery (such as driving ride on mowers, using strimmers, walk behind mowers, hedge cutters)
  5. Experience with using UTVs and towing trailers
  6. Experience of using larger estate machinery (e.g. driving tractors, telehandlers)
  7. Experience in tool and machinery maintenance i.e. tool sharpening & ride on mower servicing
  8. Able to comprehend and communicate in the English language to a level appropriate for the position
  9. IT literate - for online training, annual leave requests & communications
  10. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  11. Able to prioritise tasks, especially in the absence of the Grounds & Gardens Manager or Senior Gardener
  12. Willingness to work flexible hours, when required, e.g. Gritting in Winter months or leaf clearance in car parks in the Autumn
