Furniture Designer & CAD Technician

Location: Newark
Salary: Competitive, based on experience 28 - 40k

Contract: Permanent
Hours: 40 hours a week - 9am to 5pm - Monday to Friday and every alternate Saturday with a day off in the week.

Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Furniture Designer & CAD Technician to join our client's high-end kitchen design team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in luxury kitchen design, exceptional CAD skills creating detailed 2D technical drawings and 3D models for luxury bespoke kitchens and a deep understanding of bespoke kitchen projects. This role requires creativity, technical expertise, and the ability to manage projects from concept to completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the design process for bespoke kitchen projects, ensuring high-quality aesthetics and functionality.
  2. Create detailed technical drawings and 3D renders using CAD software.
  3. Work closely with clients, architects, and interior designers to develop customized kitchen solutions.
  4. Manage multiple projects, ensuring deadlines and client expectations are met.
  5. Provide technical support to the manufacturing team, ensuring designs are production-ready.
  6. Stay updated on the latest kitchen design trends, materials, and finishes.
  7. Conduct site visits to assess spaces and take accurate measurements.
  8. Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to source premium materials and appliances.
  9. Collaborate with the sales team to present design concepts to clients.
  10. Produce accurate and detailed technical drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and detailed joinery drawings for manufacture.
  11. Create realistic and precise 3D models of kitchens, cabinetry, and furniture for client presentations and internal design development.
  12. Work efficiently with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino 3D, Fusion 360, SketchUp, or similar industry-standard CAD software to develop and refine designs.
  13. Understand construction methods, cabinetry assembly, and high-end finishing techniques to ensure designs are both aesthetically refined and manufacturable.
  14. Work with wood, veneers, solid surfaces, stone, and metals, specifying appropriate materials based on design and structural integrity.
  15. Work closely with designers, clients, project managers, and workshop teams to translate concepts into production-ready drawings.
  16. Identify potential design or manufacturing issues and propose practical solutions.
  17. Ensure precision in measurements, tolerances, and joinery details, maintaining the highest quality standards.

Criteria:
  1. Proven experience in a similar role within luxury bespoke kitchens, high-end joinery, or furniture design.
  2. A degree or background in Art, Design, Product Design, Architecture, or Cabinet Making is preferred.
  3. Strong proficiency in at least one of the following CAD programs: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino 3D, Fusion 360, or equivalent.
  4. Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and translate design intent into technical drawings.
  5. Familiarity with manufacturing processes, CNC machining, and traditional joinery techniques.
  6. Experience working with bespoke materials and finishes.
  7. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a design and manufacturing team.
  8. A portfolio demonstrating high-quality technical drawings and 3D models.
  9. Excellent creative design skills.
  10. Minimum of 5 years' experience in luxury kitchen design.
  11. Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Fusion 360, or equivalent).
  12. Experience in high-end kitchen design, manufacturing processes, and materials.
  13. Excellent communication and project management skills.
  14. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  15. A keen eye for detail and high standards of craftsmanship.
