Functional Skills Tutor. Job in Derby Education & Training Jobs

TeacherActive are looking for a Functional Skills Tutor to work in a specialist alternative provision in Derby.

Experience working in a school setting and experience with SEND pupils is essential.

Qualifications: QTS or QTLS is preferred but not essential as attitude and personality are absolutely key.

Desirable Attributes:

1. Have an ability to teach functional skills in English & Maths.
2. Have experience working with young people.
3. Be highly organised with excellent communication skills.
4. Have a desire to work with, inspire and support children.
5. Have an interest in supporting young people with a variety of additional needs.
6. Have experience supporting children with additional needs (desirable not essential).
7. Be a part of the school team taking part in the wider school environment.
8. Have an understanding of behavioural management.

Basic Role Description:

1. Teaching Basic Skills in an SEND provision to pupils of varying abilities.
2. Supporting children during lessons/school activities.
3. Supporting staff/children during lunch and break times.
4. Managing pupils personalised learning based on their individual need.
5. Delivering 1:1 or small group activities.
6. Collecting evidence of children’s work to support their assessment.
7. Providing physical management and care of pupils.

The setting supports young people in KS3 & 4 who have been permanently excluded or are on the verge of permanent exclusion from mainstream schools. The aim is to either reintegrate these young people back into mainstream schools/post 16 education/apprenticeships or training through personalised education plans.
