Techniche Global are supporting a not-for-profit social enterprise to appoint a Functional Skills Tutor who will work closely with the Company s South Yorkshire teams to support the needs of our young people. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving the quality of education, focusing on teaching functional skills from Entry Level 1 to Level 2. They will work collaboratively with current tutors and the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Lead to enhance their teaching practice and ensure high standards of teaching and learning.

Location: Barnsley- onsite (occasionally, you can work some of your day from home)
Duration: perm/ full-time
Hours of Work: Mon-Fri 9 am 5 pm
Key requirements:
Teaching
- Deliver high-quality teaching of functional skills from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
- Provide in-class support and interventions as needed, tailored to individual learning needs.
- Deliver high-quality planning and curriculum tailored to individual learning needs.
- Work in conjunction with the Outstanding and Good criteria for OFSTED.
- Organise the workshop and classroom, its resources, student groupings and displays to provide a stimulating learning environment.
- Complete all associated organisation/administrative work, preparation and marking, including exam entries.
- Provide pick-ups and drop-offs of students, ensuring the necessary business cover has been added to car insurance, and ensure tax and MOT are in place and maintained.
Administration
- Maintain systems for tracking and monitoring student progress, attainment, and engagement.
- Use data to identify trends, learning gaps, and improvement areas.
- Implement strategies to improve student outcomes, ensuring each learner makes significant progress.
- Assist with all administration, including assessment, referrals, transition in and out, and course requirements.
- Keep and maintain student and class records for attendance and tracking of progress towards qualifications.
- Place, prepare, develop and evaluate courses and course materials, and where appropriate, supervise course provision.
- Maintain accurate student progress and outcomes records, reporting on data to the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Lead.
Collaboration
- Collaborate with the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Lead and Change Leader to set priorities.
- Lead on specific initiatives to embed best practices in inclusive education and differentiated learning.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and high expectations for all students and staff.
- Participate and undertake Staff Performance Management and in-service training (CPD).
- Attend meetings as scheduled.
- Participate in The Company engagement activities.
Qualifications
- GCSE Level 4 (Grade C) minimum in Maths and English.
- Level 5 (or higher) qualification in teaching, with specialism in SEND preferred.
- Youth Work qualification to at least Level 3.
- Up-to-date Safeguarding Knowledge to at least Level 3.
- Information, Advice or Guidance qualification to at least level 2.
- Experience working within a staff team and with young people.
- Proven experience in teaching GCSE (or alternative) functional skills in Maths or English (Entry Level 1 to Level 2).
- Significant experience in teaching post-16 learners, particularly those with SEND.
- Strong background in tracking, monitoring, and reporting on student progress and outcomes.
- Experience with exam coordination and data analysis.
- Deep understanding of SEND, alternative provision, and inclusive education.
- Strong pedagogical knowledge, including strategies for differentiated instruction and supporting diverse learning needs.
- Proficiency in using data to drive improvements in teaching and learning.
- Familiarity with safeguarding procedures and a commitment to promoting the welfare of all students.
Skills, Qualities and Attributes
