Overview
We are looking for Functional Safety Engineers (Part 6 – Product Development at the Software Level) with expertise in ISO 26262 for the Automotive Electronics domain or IEC 61508 Functional Safety of electrical, electronic and programmable electronic safety-related systems.
The candidate will be responsible for ensuring software safety compliance in safety-critical automotive systems such as ADAS, Powertrain, Body Electronics, or Chassis Control Systems. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to define safety requirements, conduct safety analyses, and ensure adherence to functional safety standards at the software development level.
Responsibilities
- Ensure software development processes comply with ISO 26262-6 (Product Development at the Software Level) or IEC 61508.
- Develop and document software safety requirements (SSR) and map them to system-level safety goals.
- Ensure traceability between safety requirements, design, implementation, and validation.
- Support ASIL (Automotive Safety Integrity Level) compliance through safety planning and verification activities.
- Perform Software Hazard and Risk Assessment (HARA) and contribute to Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Conduct Software Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Fault Injection Testing (FIT).
- Ensure compliance with ASIL decomposition and fault-tolerant software design.
- Participate in software unit testing, integration testing, and qualification testing as per ISO 26262-6 guidelines.
- Work closely with system engineers, software developers, and validation teams to ensure functional safety integration.
- Collaborate with OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and regulatory bodies to align safety strategies.
- Maintain safety documentation, including Safety Case, Safety Plan, and Software Safety Assessment Reports.
- Support safety assessments and audits conducted by internal teams or third-party assessors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Suitable experience in functional safety can be used to substitute for formal qualifications.
Essential skills
- Functional Safety Expertise: Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 Part 6 and its impact on software development.
- Familiarity with ASPICE, MISRA C, AUTOSAR, and ISO 21434 (Cybersecurity).
- Knowledge of watchdogs, memory, redundancy, and safe state strategies.
Experience
- Hands-on experience with embedded safety mechanisms and fail-safe strategies.
- Experience delivering IEC 61508 can be used to substitute ISO 26262.
- Experience in ASIL-D software development.
