Job Description

We think we’ve got the most exciting data set in the country — thanks to over 1.2 billion transactions per year. For you, it means the chance to solve real-world problems and see your creations in the hands of millions of people across the UK. As a Fullstack Engineer, you’ll create great products by interpreting and following best practice architectural and engineering principles, operating frameworks, and new and improved tech applications and solutions. You’ll also have the chance to be yourself – analytical, curious and unafraid to learn new skills or challenge the status quo. You’ll always look to improve the way things are done in your team, too.

About the Role

  • Design and develop high-performance, user-friendly web frontends using React.js, Redux, Redux-Saga, and TypeScript that are supported by large-scale high-performance services built in Golang and Node.js.
  • Contribute to the product's technical roadmap, incorporating cloud and container technologies like Kubernetes across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Lead the design and support of services and internal frameworks to enhance Sainsbury's Group's capabilities.
  • Engage in engineering activities across the entire product lifecycle, including decommissioning, focusing on cost and service support implications.
  • Work with cloud and container technologies such as Kubernetes on AWS.
  • Guide, support, and enable team performance by providing technical knowledge and innovative ideas.

What You Need to Know

  • Extensive experience in backend development with a proven track record of developing complex services for web applications.
  • Knowledge of front end languages such as Next.js, React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, SASS/SCSS, React Testing Libraries, Cypress, and Jest.
  • Experience in addressing performance and optimization issues.
  • Comfortable with and can use Build Tools (webpack, rollup).
  • Proven experience in software design and implementation, security, cloud, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and any relevant hardware.
  • Passionate about delivering solutions, owning the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), living the DevSecOps principles, and being curious about emerging technologies.
  • Self-driven and constantly striving to improve your team, division, and peers.
  • A strong advocate for agile/lean delivery methodologies.

As well as lots of on-the-job training and endless opportunities, you’ll get:

  • Colleague discount across our multi-brands – Sainsbury’s, Argos, Tu and Habitat, plus:
  • Pension plan
  • Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers and more

Work-life balance is important to us, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role. We trust them to decide how, where and when they work, combining remote and collaborative working with a flexible approach to hours, giving them plenty of time and space for life outside of work whilst delivering against our business goals.

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you’ll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new - whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you.
