Job description

As a Full Stack Java Engineering Lead at Barclays, you’ll take a hands-on leadership role, owning the design, development, testing, and documentation of large-scale, mission-critical software applications. You’ll work across the entire lifecycle, from inception to deployment, meeting budget, timeline, and quality standards. In addition to technical execution, you'll also provide operational support and drive enhancements to ensure consistent service excellence. This role includes leading a team of talented developers to deliver top-tier solutions in a fast-paced environment.

To be successful as a Full Stack Java Engineering Lead, you will need the following:

  • Oracle Certified Java Developer.
  • Front-end development experience, ideally with React Native and React JS; broader JavaScript knowledge is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD best practices.
  • Extensive experience with the Spring framework.
  • Expertise in software performance modelling and analysis.
  • Strong experience with RESTful web services.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver on complex technical projects.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Mobile Development experience – iOS Swift, Android Kotlin.
  • Database development skills.
  • Background in developing internet-facing applications or services.
  • Awareness of current IT trends, architectures, and live systems.
  • Analytical mindset with a keen eye for detail.

The successful candidate will be based in Radbroke Hall, Knutsford.

Purpose of the role

To lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives.

Accountabilities

  • Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
  • Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
  • Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
  • Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
  • Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.
