Fresh Category Buyer - Wholesalers - Food Industry
Exciting opportunity for a Fresh Category Buyer to join a well-established, internationally respected leading wholesaler within the fish and seafood sector. This role offers an experienced buyer the chance to advance their career in a rapidly expanding leader.
Reporting to the Director, this role will manage the entire seafood category, from sourcing to merchandising, ensuring the business stays aligned with industry trends and market demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Category Strategy Development: Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies for the fish category and buying, aligning with company objectives and market trends.
- Product Assortment: Define the optimal product mix, ensuring a diverse range of fish products that meet customer needs and industry trends.
- Vendor Management: Cultivate strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate competitive pricing, contracts, and promotional offers. Ensure timely delivery of fresh stock.
- Quality Assurance: Work closely with the quality control team to ensure that all fish products meet safety, freshness, and sustainability standards.
- Promotions & Marketing: Collaborate with the marketing team to create and execute targeted campaigns and promotional activities to drive foot traffic and sales within the category.
- Inventory Management: Oversee stock levels and work closely with the operations team to manage supply chain efficiency, avoiding stock-outs or excess inventory.
- Trend Analysis: Stay informed about emerging trends in the seafood industry, including sustainability practices, sourcing, and consumer preferences.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other category managers, the fresh foods team, and senior management to ensure the seamless execution of overall departmental goals.
Minimum RequirementsAs the Fresh Category Buyer, you must be a team player with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in fresh food retail, with a focus on seafood or fish categories. Experience in category management or buying is highly preferred. You will have a strong understanding of seafood products, industry standards, quality control, and sustainability.
