Freelance Estimator - Civil Engineering

Location: North of Manchester (Preference for local candidates)
Salary: £300 - £350 per day (Freelance)
Contract Type: Freelance (Permanent opportunity for the right candidate)

Our client is a highly respected civil engineering company specialising in surfacing, remediation, groundworks, streetworks, drainage, roads, and sewers. With a strong reputation for delivering exceptional projects, the company is seeking a skilled Estimator to join their team on a freelance basis, with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.

Position Overview:
As an Estimator, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the project management team by preparing accurate and competitive estimates for a wide range of civil engineering projects. This will include works in groundworks, surfacing, drainage, roads, sewers, and streetworks. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in groundworks and civils, and a thorough understanding of the industry's requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Prepare detailed estimates for civil engineering projects (groundworks, surfacing, drainage, roads, sewers, streetworks).
2. Review and analyse project specifications, drawings, and site surveys.
3. Calculate accurate costs for labour, materials, and equipment required for each project.
4. Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to gather quotations and information for cost analysis.
5. Provide support in assessing risks and project timelines.
6. Collaborate closely with the project management team to ensure estimates are aligned with project goals and budgets.
7. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Essential Requirements:

1. Proven experience as an Estimator within the civil engineering sector, with a strong background in groundworks and civils.
2. In-depth knowledge of civil engineering processes, materials, and construction methods.
3. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
4. Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, suppliers, and team members.
5. Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
6. Ideally based near the North Manchester area (or willing to commute).
7. Freelance availability, with the potential for a permanent role for the right candidate.

Desirable Skills:

1. Experience working on public and private sector projects.
2. Proficiency in estimation software.
3. Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and industry best practices.
