Forensic Healthcare Professional - Isle of Wight

As a Health Care Professional, you will be joining our team of clinicians who are on hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assess and address the health needs of detained persons, as well as conducting forensic medical examinations gathering evidence for use in the criminal justice system.

The role will involve:

1. Conducting clinical assessments and identifying appropriate interventions.
2. Collecting forensic samples.
3. Providing advice and guidance while maintaining detailed and accurate records to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of detained persons held in police custody.
4. Providing a professional, responsive, and caring service to detained persons in the custody environment to support the Custody Sergeant and Custody Officers.
5. Carrying out forensic sampling.
6. Determining an individual's fitness to be detained, fitness to be released, fitness to be interviewed, and competence to understand charges.
7. Assessing alcohol and drug intoxication and withdrawal and retrieving blood samples under the Road Traffic Act.
8. Providing advice and support to Custody Officers in determining the health care needs of detainees and the priorities of care.
9. Seeking telephone advice and referring cases to the Consultant FME when required.
10. Effectively delivering the requirements of the forensic practitioner service following the Codes of Practice of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and locally agreed protocols.
11. Abiding by the NMC code of conduct, maintaining professional development through training and experience, and promoting the role of nurses in the custody setting.
12. Keeping accurate, complete, and contemporaneous notes of work carried out, including the recording of injuries.
13. Ensuring all activities are logged using the systems in use.
14. Participating in the collection of data for service audits and other mechanisms for achieving continuous service improvement.
15. Keeping up to date on current internal and external procedures and regulations.
