Job Title: Food Technician
Location: Secondary School, London Borough of Southwark
Salary: 14 - 16 PHR
Contract: Term-time only, Full-time DBS enhanced Required

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and organised Food Technician to join our vibrant secondary school in Southwark. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Food Technology department, ensuring the smooth operation of practical lessons, maintaining equipment, and providing essential assistance to teachers and students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare ingredients, equipment, and materials for Food Technology practical lessons.
  • Assist students during practical lessons, ensuring health and safety standards are met.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in kitchens and food preparation areas in line with school policies.
  • Order and manage stock, ensuring ingredients and materials are available as needed.
  • Support teachers in lesson planning and demonstration of techniques when required.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and checks on kitchen appliances and report any issues.
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene regulations and school health & safety policies.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including record-keeping and resource management.
Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Experience working in a food-related environment, such as a school, catering, or hospitality.
  • Knowledge of food safety, hygiene regulations, and health & safety in a kitchen environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and support students in their learning.
  • A proactive and enthusiastic approach to work.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience as a Food Technician in an educational setting.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above) or willingness to undertake training.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to train.
