Job description

Portfolio Procurement has been engaged by our leading Kent based client to recruit for a Food Buyer on an initial 6-month contract.

The role:

To support the strategic purchasing of packaging/ingredients through effective data analysis, forecasting using systems (Microsoft Dynamics & Excel) and market research, with an objective to provide timely availability of materials for operations/production team.

Main responsibilities:

  • Negotiate terms of contract.
  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and source new suppliers.
  • Understand the basic rules of vendor management, allocation, and price negotiation.
  • Liaise with other departments within the organisation to ensure projects are completed.
  • Planning, monitoring, and maintaining suitable inventory levels.
  • Raising, placing, and tracking Purchase Orders.
  • Ensuring products are purchased at the right time, to specification and at best possible price

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience as a Buyer within a food manufacturing company
  • A strong academic background, with a qualification in a related discipline.
  • Advanced excel skills and good knowledge of all other Microsoft products.
  • Working knowledge of ERP Systems.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Numerical and analytical skills.
