Job description

Portfolio Procurement has been engaged by our leading Kent based client to recruit for a Food Buyer on an initial 6-month contract.


The role:

To support the strategic purchasing of packaging/ingredients through effective data analysis, forecasting using systems (Microsoft Dynamics & Excel) and market research, with an objective to provide timely availability of materials for operations/production team.


Main responsibilities:

  1. Negotiate terms of contract.
  2. Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and source new suppliers.
  3. Understand the basic rules of vendor management, allocation, and price negotiation.
  4. Liaise with other departments within the organisation to ensure projects are completed.
  5. Planning, monitoring, and maintaining suitable inventory levels.
  6. Raising, placing, and tracking Purchase Orders.
  7. Ensuring products are purchased at the right time, to specification and at best possible price.

Skills and Experience:

  1. Previous experience as a Buyer within a food manufacturing company.
  2. A strong academic background, with a qualification in a related discipline.
  3. Advanced Excel skills and good knowledge of all other Microsoft products.
  4. Working knowledge of ERP Systems.
  5. High attention to detail.
  6. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Numerical and analytical skills.
