Job Purpose
Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for managing and optimising both labour and material resources to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensuring effective communication, performance, and development of the team, whilst maintaining high standards of quality, food safety, and health and safety within the area. Key responsibilities include monitoring and analysing performance, handling material usage and waste, driving team performance, ensuring compliance with HR policies, and overseeing adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
The purpose of the role is to act as relief and support for the Production Operations Manager in achieving and exceeding the KPI’s for the area and optimise labour and material resources to achieve performance targets while ensuring quality, safety, and effective team management.
Duties Include
Labour and Material Control
- Responsible for achieving Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Examples of which would be plan attainment, customer service, OEE.
- To ensure adherence to targets and plans, identifying root cause for not achieving targets and taking remedial action. Analysis and trending of downtime to identify improvement opportunities.
- Report any material rejections trends and resolve/ escalate where appropriate.
- Measure and closely monitor material usage to ensure waste and give away is within tolerance.
- Effective Labour management in line with production plans.
People Performance and Development
- Ensuring effective communication to team via Huddles and Team Briefings.
- Responsible for driving individuals’ performance on the line.
- Monitoring timekeeping and attendance, ensuring completion of RTW interviews and absence management.
- Identification and development of key skills within the area to ensure succession planning.
- Supporting new starters to integrate into the area and ensure they understand expectations.
- Ensuring compliance with HR policies and ensuring disciplinary and grievance policies are followed where necessary.
Quality and Food Safety
- To be responsible for product quality, technical integrity and food safety through GMP, adherence to specification and process controls.
- To maximise GMP performance for the area escalating any issues outside of your control with proposed solutions as appropriate.
- To assist with quality investigations as required.
- Ensuring prestart up checks are completed.
Health Safety
- Responsible for Health and Safety within the area and ensuring team adherence to H&S policies and procedures.
- To support in the generation of Risk Assessments and SSOP.
- Proactive identification of H&S hazards, supporting and ensuring that all actions are closed off on time including corrective actions following incidents/audits/accidents.
- Supporting with training on SSOW and SOPs.
Skills Include
- Experience of working in a fast-moving food production environment.
- Experience of leading a team to hit relevant KPI’s.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Supervisory experience within a similar environment.
- Ability to develop and coach a team of direct reports.
- Experience of driving and delivering targets and KPIs.
- People Management skills – experience in managing performance, managing area training, motivating and leading teams, leading by example, effective communication (at all levels).
- Must have strong interpersonal skills, able to drive changes and sustainable improvement.
- Team Player – support peers/team, support departments particularly through peak periods and holidays.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and agile approach to daily working.
Desirable
- Understanding of the fundamentals of food production and HACCP control. HACCP level 3.
- Supervisory experience ideally in FMCG and ideally with a minimum of one year within chilled food environment.
- ILM or equivalent 1st line management qualification.
- IOSH.
- Train the Trainer Qualification.
