Job Introduction

FM Technical Supervisor at HMP Altcourse

  • Location: HMP Altcourse
  • Working hours: 40 hours per week with a regular Mon-Fri pattern
  • Salary: £35,000 - £38,000 depending on experience

As a FM Technical Supervisor at HMP Altcourse, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our facility operates seamlessly, efficiently, and safely every single day. You’ll be at the forefront of maintaining a secure, effective environment, working closely with the Deputy Head of Facilities Management to deliver exceptional Hard Services.

This isn’t just a technical role; it’s a leadership opportunity. You’ll manage a dedicated team, oversee high-quality maintenance, and mentor individuals including prisoners, helping them develop skills as part of Sodexo’s commitment to rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe working practices and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Take an active interest in staff welfare, engagement, and professional development.
  • Supervise and train prisoners, contributing to their rehabilitation journey.
  • Conduct quality checks on 20% of team works each month and recognize successes.
  • Manage and review the CAFM system, ensuring maintenance aligns with contractual agreements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work.
  • Provide detailed reports using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Manage communications via email and telephone.
  • Lead and conduct 1-2-1s, mid-year, and end-of-year reviews for the Maintenance team.

What We’re Looking For:

  • City & Guilds qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • Experience in a diverse engineering/FM environment (24/365 operational experience is an advantage).
  • Knowledge of BMS, CAFM, and in-house software packages.
  • Strong awareness of HASAWA 1974 and British Standards.
  • Proven ability to manage operations and projects under tight timeframes.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • A flexible, team-player mindset with a progressive approach to maintenance services.
