Job description

The Operations Control Centre (OCC) within Jet2 is one of the busiest areas to work within the company.

Join us! As we’re looking to hire a Flight Planning & Navigation Apprentice to join our Flight Planning & ATC Department.

As our Apprentice you will work through an Institute for Apprenticeship & Technical Education (IfATE) approved Level 3 Aviation Flight Operations Coordinator Apprenticeship, which is designed to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to become a competent member of any of our Airline Operations Teams.

Reporting to the Flight Planning & ATC Delivery Manager, the Flight Planning & Navigation Apprentice, through On The Job Training, will be working in the Flight Planning & ATC Department, the Operations Control Centre and other operational areas within the airline such as Flight Operations. Our Flight Planning & Navigation Apprentice will also have value added learning workshops, assignments, 3-way learner reviews and distance learning, as well as being supported through the 24-month apprenticeship scheme by the Operations Training & Development Team and a Registered Apprenticeship Training Provider.

Following successful completion of the scheme and an End Point Assessment which will be carried out by an Independent Assessment Organisation you will receive a certificate of completion of a Level 3 Aviation Flight Operations Coordinator Apprenticeship which will evidence holding a competence in working knowledge in an airline operations environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assisting with day-to-day running of the flying programme and providing support to ensure that the flying programme is operated according to all statutory, company and commercial requirements.
  • Production and timely delivery of Operational Flight Plans (OFP), weather and NOTAM information for all Jet2.com flights to allow operating Crews to brief prior to departure.
  • Monitoring and reducing delays allocated to all Jet2.com flights in relation to Air Traffic Control (ATC) regulations.
  • Maintaining a close liaison with other internal and external customers so that the information required for the efficient operation of the flying programme is continuously updated.
  • Pre-determining aircraft engine power requirements for the next day in accordance with the company Performance Analysis procedures.
  • Assisting the Operation with any additional tasks as requested, and any other duties as required by the Flight Planning & ATC Management team.

What you’ll have:

  • A GCSE certificate Grade 4-9 (or equivalent) in English & Maths is required.
  • An educational qualification in any area of aviation studies or work experience in a field of aviation would be advantageous.
  • Have a strong desire to learn and self-develop, possess a strong work ethic and have excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Have the ability to work under your own initiative as well as part of a team whilst also being able to work to tight timescales.

This role primarily operates across a 12 hour shift, 7 days a week shift pattern including night shift working as required. Working hours will also be as required where value added apprenticeship training and assessments necessitate.
