A quick look at the role

A Fleet Category Manager is required to meet the growing remit across Fleet Procurement. It's important you fit the team dynamic and are able to deal with the complexities and ambiguities the role will present. We are looking for someone with previous procurement and operations experience of automotive, fleet or alternative fuels.

Your Core Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop knowledge of a specific category or categories, including: Biffa's Fleets products, services, and strategy; suppliers
  • Understand the key market levers and know how/when to use them
  • Understand and execute Biffa procurement processes becoming skilled in respective process steps being able to train other Procurement Team members
  • Deliver value to the business through the application of strategic sourcing activity, utilising a working knowledge of innovation/business trends within the market sector to bring innovative sourcing options to the table
  • Provide a coaching role in category strategy development, passing on valuable knowledge within the Fleet Procurement team
  • Design Procurement documentation and lead the overall strategy for a category and implement specific approaches for an individual supplier and the contractual arrangements
  • Negotiate high value, high risk contracts with suppliers that protect the business by providing relevant risk management, financial and non-financial benefits to the group
  • Define the risk to the business, apply language to protect the business, and have exclusive alternatives to better the contract over time
  • Identify and establish strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders to agree effective procurement support and resources aligned to business unit strategy and plans
Our Essential Requirements

  • Experience in fleet, automotive or alternative fuel related categories
  • Financial acumen with the ability to interpret P&L statements and business accounts to work with Finance and Operational stakeholders to realise expected benefits
  • Ability to challenge business process and purchasing rationale to fully identify business need and deliver effective business options
  • Knowledgeable of themes of environment, labour/ human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement, and the criteria within each which contribute to positive social value
  • Structured approach to full project management including overall plan with activities and milestones, actions, risk, stakeholders identified, and governance defined
