Fixed term Band 6 Genetic Counsellor for 6 months

We are looking for an experienced B6 GC for a six month post to cover a sabbatical vacancy in our team of Genetic Counsellors at Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine. Depending on experience, the post holder will contribute to our clinical services in urgent prenatal, cancer or general genetic counselling. This post would ideally suit an overseas candidate looking for experience in the UK. Support would be given towards UK Registration.

The Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine, with a designated Genomic Laboratory Hub, is one of the biggest genetic clinical and laboratory services in the UK, at the forefront of developing education, training, research and clinical services. We have a strong commitment to education and training. The academic arm of the Scientist Training Programme (STP) in Genomic Counselling is coordinated through this department in collaboration with the University of Manchester. We also host the Manchester Rare Conditions Centre. We have integrated and multidisciplinary services including metabolic, immunology, cardiac, prenatal and ophthalmology services. The department is active in translational research, clinical trials and actively promotes research in our genetic counselling team.

You will undertake a range of genetic counsellor duties including independent genetic counsellor clinics, genetic register work, peripheral clinics, pre-natal/urgent referral work, and where appropriate may help contribute to supervision or teaching of other staff members.

You must be motivated and self-directed in your learning and must be able to work autonomously and in a team. You will need good multidisciplinary working skills to be able to work effectively with medical colleagues.

There will be opportunities for CPD through a lively programme of internal seminars and lectures, as well as access to external education and training.

You will provide high quality genetic counselling and testing for a wide variety of conditions, with supervision and training where needed.
