The Purpose

As a key member of our elite performance team, the First Team Physiotherapist will play a central role in delivering world-class rehabilitation, physical preparation, and injury prevention strategies. This position is crucial for optimising player performance, promoting resilience, and supporting both recovery and long-term physical well-being.

The Role

  • Develop and implement best in class physical preparation, injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies to keep players in peak physical condition.
  • Work closely with players daily to minimise injury-related time loss and optimise return-to-play timelines.
  • Plan, design and deliver world-class rehabilitation programs, from injury onset to full training integration.
  • Collaborate and work seamlessly with the multidisciplinary team, including sports scientists, coaches, and medical professionals, to provide all round holistic player care.
  • Ensure detailed, accurate assessment, diagnosis, and prognosis of injuries in collaboration with the Head of Physiotherapy.
  • Contribute to the Injury Prevention Programme alongside medical and performance staff.
  • Support daily player preparation for training and assist with match-day readiness, including emergency injury care.
  • Maintain meticulous physiotherapy records in line with Manchester United Physiotherapy Service Standards.
  • Liaise and collaborate with club physiotherapists, doctors, and external healthcare professionals to provide optimal care for all players.
  • Continuously develop and implement best practices to align with the club’s vision of becoming a world-class Football Medicine & Science Department.

The Person:

  • BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy (Essential)
  • Health & Care Professions Council registration (Essential)
  • Master’s degree in Sport & Exercise Medicine & / or Strength & Conditioning (Desirable)
  • Extensive experience in delivering physiotherapy & rehabilitation services at an elite sport level (Essential)
  • Advanced resuscitation and emergency aid training (ATMMIF or equivalent) (Desirable)
  • Proven ability to design and implement world-class rehabilitation programs, from gym to pitch
  • Strong clinical reasoning and treatment skills
  • Deep knowledge of sports science research and a commitment to continuous learning & professional development
  • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese (highly desirable)
  • Excellent multitasking abilities with the capacity to work under strict deadlines
  • A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset, capable of making critical decisions under pressure
  • An adaptable and resilient approach in high-performance environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that enable the candidate to develop deep and trustworthy relationships with players & staff
  • A passion for professional development and a growth mindset
