BCL is pleased to be assisting a market-leading national law firm, seeking a Senior Associate to join its growing Financial Services Disputes and Investigations (FSDI) team in Birmingham. This opportunity offers an exciting and diverse role, focusing on high-value and complex financial services litigation, including banking disputes, investment litigation, professional negligence, fraud, and trade finance. Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits package, and a supportive, inclusive work environment with fully flexible hybrid working options.

The Team

The firm's FSDI team is one of the largest in the UK, with over 150 people across offices in key locations. The team is ranked in the top tier by Chambers for financial services litigation outside of London. The firm advises a range of clients, including major UK clearing banks, private and wealth banks, international banks, and fintechs. They handle complex and varied disputes, from high-profile banking litigation to regulatory issues, fraud, and receivership instructions.

The Role

As a Senior Associate, you will work on a diverse range of contentious matters for high-profile clients in the financial services sector. You will have the opportunity to manage your own caseload of complex banking litigation, supervise junior members of the team, and provide strategic legal advice. The role also offers business development opportunities and the chance to assist in the creation of legal updates and know-how. You will be involved in a variety of work across different financial services sectors, with no two days being the same.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. A Qualified Solicitor (SRA or Law Society Registered), ideally 4-8 PQE, but applications outside of this range will also be considered.
  2. Experience managing a caseload of financial or commercial litigation matters, with a thorough understanding of the CPR and litigation process.
  3. Experience in financial services disputes (e.g., banking, investment, fraud, regulatory issues), though candidates with commercial litigation experience will also be considered.
  4. Strong client relationship skills, business development experience, and an interest in contributing to the growth of the team.
  5. The ability to supervise junior lawyers, provide mentorship, and support the development of the team.

Work-Life Balance

The firm offers a flexible, hybrid working model that supports a healthy work-life balance, with core business hours of 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM, Monday to Friday.

Benefits Package

The firm offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  1. A competitive salary with annual pay reviews
  2. 25 days holiday (increasing to 30 days based on length of service)
  3. Private medical insurance
  4. Access to flexible benefits through the firm's benefits scheme
  5. Opportunities for ongoing professional development and bespoke training
  6. Life assurance and pension contributions
  7. Supportive wellbeing initiatives
