Job description

We are looking for a Financial Reporting Accountant, responsible for ensuring the financial reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner to our Parent company/Directors/Senior management and other UK Regulatory bodies, as well as providing analysis and commentary. You will be key to our process improvements by building in further efficiencies to our existing processes, via a series of automation methods and collaboration with specialist teams!

This role will be based in our Stoke Poges office 2-3 days a week, with hybrid working available for the remainder.

What are my responsibilities:
  • Prepare and analyse regulatory data for a wide range of external stakeholders (FCA, ONS, Auditors, Companies House, Tax etc)
  • Adhere to the guidelines set out by the regulatory bodies and our internal control and accounting frameworks
  • Prepare monthly journals and analysis including movements on primary financial statements in consolidated and management accounting views, along with rationale for the movements
  • Report the closing figures in our internal reporting and consolidation tools, including reconciliation between these tools and the general ledger
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of the balance sheet accounts, investigate, and actively resolve issues identified
  • Work with the systems we operate and understand how they link to each other. Assess areas for improvement and proactively use digital skills to act on this
  • Be a key member of the finance team, collaborate effectively with the wider business and investigate ad-hoc queries that come into the finance department
  • Proactively seek to improve the efficiency of the month end reporting, as well as the wider finance deliverables through process improvement, automation and standardisation
  • Embrace our goal of becoming a trusted partner to each department of the business, get involved at the beginning of transactions and in decision making
  • Comfortable and confident dealing with large amounts of complex data and databases. Importantly, being able to take large datasets, test and challenge their integrity, and concisely draw conclusions and insights that will support the management team.
  • Work with the system delivery teams and subject matter experts to assist in the ongoing development and testing of operating systems and the associated accounting and reports
Skills and experience required:
  • Relevant accounting qualification or equivalent
  • Knowledge of IFRS is essential, with financial services, leasing and funding experience advantageous
  • Experience of multiple system interfaces
  • Demonstrable internal and external audit experience
  • Strong IT and Microsoft Excel skills, with confidence in own ability to lead change management processes
  • Demonstrable process improvement/automation experience and a keen interest to use digital skills
  • Excellent communication skills including communicating technical and complex topics
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Methodical and diligent approach, working to tight deadlines within a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail and service ethos
  • Be highly motivated and of an inquisitive nature to problem solve, work with IT and other Operational teams to find unique solutions that support multiple stakeholders
