The Role:
The Financial Crime SME will support the First Line Financial Crime Operations team in all activities related to financial crime and AML within the asset management business.
You will work closely with our Private Markets business teams and collaborate with our third-party KYC provider, providing subject matter expertise. The role requires strong communication skills to build relationships and engage with stakeholders at all levels.
The successful candidate will need the ability to translate regulations into workable processes, streamlining and expediting AML/onboarding, giving the edge to our business teams to compete within the marketplace. You will report directly to the Head of Financial Crime - Asset Management and be part of the Operations Business area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Become the go-to expert for all financial crime matters and the champion of financial crime at all levels of the Public & Private Asset business, offering support, risk-based advice, and counsel to stakeholders while mitigating any financial crime risk.
- Undertake quality and proactive engagement with the Business at all levels. Proactively develop and maintain relationships, fostering a collaborative approach embedding a financial crime 'mindset' within the business teams.
- Support the third-party KYC provider with financial crime-related matters, ensuring they are conducted according to the M&G standards, policies, procedures, systems, and controls.
- Lead the streamlining of existing financial crime processes and any applicable local training material within the first-line financial crime operations.
- Collaborate with business, 2LoD, CITO, and external colleagues within the Business to own and drive activity forward in line with business objectives and regulatory requirements, providing constructive challenge to ensure quality of deliverables.
- Support design and delivery activities in one or more of the following Change Initiatives as an Asset Management representative: risk appetite statements, FC policies and standards, risk assessment methodologies, FC MI framework and reporting, FC governance model, target state onboarding processes, screening calibration, third-party oversight, and monitoring or 1LOD organisation.
- Support and drive the designing of high-quality deliverables across Change Initiatives, providing creative, tailored solutions to challenging scenarios and business/subject matter input into deliverables.
- Identify and manage risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies including working with impacted stakeholders to resolve these and escalate as appropriate.
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:- Extensive experience in Asset Management business (preferable Private Markets expertise but not mandatory) and Financial Crime, including client onboarding.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with a third-party supplier and senior business stakeholders.
- Ability to think outside the box and update existing Financial Crime processes and procedures.
- Experience at a consultant level, demonstrating the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
- In-depth knowledge of financial crime regulations in various jurisdictions, including APAC, EEA, and the Americas.
- Proven track record in building partnerships and business relationships with various teams.
- Ability to provide subject matter expertise and support to KYC partners and the Business.
- Familiarity with streamlining processes, developing policies, and maintaining effective tools and user guides.
- Understanding of AML and onboarding processes within the Asset Management industry.
