We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Financial Controller - Small Entities.

You will be based within the Financial Accounting team which operates the financial control and financial/regulatory reporting functions for HSBC UK Bank plc subsidiary entities.

In addition to the scale and complexity of this role, it will provide you with a real opportunity to develop a broad range of skills including collaboration, financial analysis, influencing skills as well as technical application of IFRS. You will also have significant exposure to senior management.

In this role, you will:

• Have primary responsibility for the Bank's subsidiaries and ensuring integrity of the Ledger Close Process across the full Trial Balance, balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation, group reporting submissions, regulatory reporting and statutory reporting.
• Accountability and oversight of monthly management accounting and trial balance, period end close, reporting process, Balance Sheet reconciliation process and ensuring high quality delivery, as well as escalation, incident management, and stakeholder management around reporting.
• Collaborate and engage with the offshore team to ensure completeness and integrity of the accounting and reporting.
• Aligned to issue management, ensuring all issues are escalated and the correct governance is followed.
• Ensure integrity and governance over key management judgements.
• Have business partnering, relationship management and accounting responsibilities within the team.
• Acting as a key contact for GAP/ Tax / Financial Reporting and other business functions for queries and support.
• Assist with and provide technical support to the wider SME population.
• Provide pro-active reviews and insights with current products and accounting reviews back to the business terms and conditions.
• Engage, collaborate and maintain the PWC (external auditor) relationship management.
• Support with change management initiatives across the business and in particular finance.

• Demonstrable current experience working within a large Professional Services or Financial Services organisation.
• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Demonstrable financial and regulatory reporting experience.
• Project management experience within a finance function.
• Experience of interpreting accounting standards and / or reporting requirements.
• Demonstrable experience of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
• Experience of directing and navigating change projects.
• Collaborative, engaging, credible and methodical; being able to bring the numbers, policy and narrative to life (e.g., presenting to a wide range of stakeholders/ senior management).
• Experience of building and maintaining strong relationships with senior stakeholders (all levels of seniority, businesses, and geographies).

The base location for this role will be Birmingham and with a hybrid working pattern.
