About the Role:

As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of financial governance, risk management, and compliance while ensuring accurate financial reporting and robust financial controls. You will work closely with the Finance Director and senior leadership team, supporting strategic decision-making and improving financial performance.

This role is pivotal in ensuring strong financial discipline, process improvement, and commercial insight, making a direct impact on the business’s success. You will manage a team responsible for financial reporting, management accounts, and operational finance, providing leadership and mentorship.

As a financial controller, you will:

• Oversee financial reporting, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP & IFRS.
• Lead month-end & year-end closing with accurate financial statements.
• Implement financial controls & policies to safeguard company integrity.
• Manage audits, liaising with external auditors & ensuring compliance.
• Maintain balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy.
• Develop and oversee budgeting, forecasting & financial planning.
• Provide variance analysis & insights to improve performance.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities with operational teams.
• Support senior leadership with financial modelling & decision-making.
• Act as a financial business partner, providing insights to drive growth.
• Support pricing strategies, cost structures & profitability analysis.
• Guide investment decisions, capital expenditures & strategic projects.
• Ensure compliance with tax, VAT & regulatory requirements.
• Monitor & mitigate financial risks, protecting company assets.
• Maintain SOX compliance & internal controls as per policies.
• Lead, mentor & develop a high-performing finance team.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability & continuous improvement.
• Drive process improvements to enhance financial efficiency.

Person Specification:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience.
• Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Head of Finance, or Senior Finance Manager role.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS reporting standards.
• Experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Excellent leadership and people management skills, with experience leading a finance team.
• Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-site retail or healthcare environment (preferred).
• Strong understanding of tax, VAT, and regulatory compliance.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.
