To promote a financially resilient market, our Financial Advisory teams undertake market monitoring activity and provide financial advice and analysis on a wide range of market issues. Our team plays a vital part in providing expert financial advice on new market entrants, the financial health of established suppliers, trade sales, market and supplier-specific financial risks and critical policy decisions. In this role you will offer expert financial advice on regulated retail and commercial activities.

Job Description

Working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, you will provide input on key finance issues, such as cost of capital, capital structures for regulated entities. More broadly, you will support Ofgem’s corporate and regulatory finance work across all areas of the organisation, providing corporate and regulatory finance advice to policy and other teams. You will also offer technical advice on the cost of debt and equity, gearing, rating agencies and other issues.

It’s a role that will suit someone with great quantitative and qualitative analytical skills with demonstrable experience of analysis techniques, risk assessments and operational expertise. You’ll enjoy developing, planning and delivering projects, requiring minimal supervision and you should offer good all-round communication skills. You should have a good knowledge of project management and analytics and be confident in detailed financial statement analysis. It’s important that you can build positive relationships with different stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities Of This Role

  • Assist in the monitoring of the licensees’ ring fence submissions and financial resilience measures and where required identify efficiencies and improvements to the licence, guidance, reporting framework and review process.
  • Support in providing technical finance advice relating to ring fence compliance and financial resilience matters including licence derogation requests and finance advice on new licence applications.
  • Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on matters related to ring fence compliance and financial resilience. External stakeholders include, but are not limited to, HM Government, sector regulators, UK Regulators Network and regulated companies.
  • Prepare high quality documentation of all analysis and decisions.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Regulatory Finance to support the team’s contribution to the overall Ofgem work plan.

Essential Criteria
  • Have or working towards a recognised finance qualification, e.g. CFA, MSc Finance or have relevant finance or commercial experience, that can be demonstrated by proven record of high performance and substantial achievements in past positions. (LEAD)
  • Ability to process and communicate complex financial information and data to varied audiences. (LEAD)
  • Experience of building internal & external relationships at all levels.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Ofgem’s activities, including broad working knowledge of the UK’s political/regulatory landscape and the energy industry.
  • Highly proficient with Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Confident in problem solving with experience using complex information in order to enable effective decision-making.

Selection process details
