About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Finance Officer will play a key role in providing financial insights, reporting, and analysis to senior managers and teams. You will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of financial information and help drive automation and efficiency within the finance function while ensuring compliance with internal procedures and external regulations.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  1. Prepare quarterly management accounts for the Treasurer within agreed timeframes.
  2. Oversee annual budget setting process, coordinating with other internal stakeholders, and to present the budget to the Treasurer within agreed timeframes.
  3. Prepare yearend schedules and other information within agreed timescales for Head of Finance to review.
  4. Liaise with external auditors and coordinate responses to any requests received.
  5. Process all financial transactions within IRIS Financials accounts to trial balance and perform reconciliation of all control accounts, investments, and bank accounts monthly.
  6. Provide accounting services to other specialist societies as set out within service level agreements.
  7. Prepare quarterly invoices to specialist societies as set out within service level agreements and schedule of income received on behalf of societies for approval by management to pay over to the societies.
  8. Provide high quality and effective financial reporting, support and assistance to the Head of Finance and other senior managers as required.
  9. Under the guidance of the Head of Finance, monitor and review financial systems and procedures and recommend, devise and implement more effective and efficient procedures.
  10. Reconcile daily credit card receipts recorded with the Association’s CRM software to bank receipts and ensure that income is accurately posted within IRIS Financials accounts in a timely basis.
  11. Record donations and any sundry receipts received into IRIS Financials accounts.
  12. Upload bank statements into IRIS Financials accounts and reconcile bank accounts on a weekly basis and ensure all transactions are cleared in a timely basis.
  13. Prepare month end bank reconciliations for sign off by Head of Finance.
  14. Ensure month end balance sheet reconciliations are prepared for prepayments, deferred income, specialist societies’ bank and credit accounts monthly.
  15. Process Improvement: support automation initiatives and implement more efficient financial procedures.

Ideal candidate profile:

  1. Part-qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA/AAT)
  2. Experience working in a Charity environment
  3. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
  4. Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting software (IRIS Financials preferred).
  5. Detail-oriented, highly organised, and proactive in problem-solving.

Working hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Working pattern: Hybrid – 2 days a week in the office (more frequent office-based working during probationary period)

Salary: up to £38,502 per annum + excellent company benefits
