PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As C4 embarks on our FastForward strategy, the Finance function has been realigned to best serve the business. The Commercial Finance function comprises the FP&A team, and Finance Business Partners who are aligned to the C4 strategic business pillars, in order to provide a centralised planning and analysis function. The FP&A team is a critical part of the Finance Function, working closely with all of the Business Partnering teams as well as the Group Reporting function to actively manage our financial performance.

This role will provide direct support and business partnering to the Technology Director and Director of Content Management, and will be responsible for managing a budget in excess of £100m. The role will be the lead in introducing and improving governance structures for both project and BAU investment and negotiations, alongside leading on developing the channels capital business case model and evaluation process. It will line manage one or more direct reports, and also require delivery through others under other reporting lines, so the ability to influence and work collaboratively is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technology Function Business Partner

  • Lead Business partner for the Technology and Content Management functions
  • Partnering the Director of Technology and the Director of Content Management (managing total annual spend of £100m+) - opex and capex
  • Proactively manage risks and opportunities, interpreting monthly results delivered by our group accounting function
  • Responsible for forecasting, budgeting and long-range planning for 6 departments
  • Support high-value commercial negotiations for new deals and renewals
  • Lead finance partner on a key large-scale, complex, and business critical transformation programme for C4
  • Work on cross-functional projects that require working with multiple executive team members and external partners

Capital Investment/Portfolio Management

  • Be the organisational lead on business case evaluation - developing the channels capital business case model and implementing with senior leaders
  • Introduce robust business cases to support capital investment for tech, product and other growth initiatives - and roll out a consistent format to be used across the organisation
  • Work with project teams to ensure sufficient rigour end-to-end, including ensuring cost savings and revenue upside is baked into plan, monitoring project spend and completing post investment appraisals
  • Responsibility for managing the overall capex budget across the group - including responsibility for budgeting and forecasting
  • Provides a key advisory role to the CFO on when to ringfence/release budget

Operating Efficiency (OE)

  • Overall finance lead for the company-wide operating efficiency plan
  • Identify and size opportunities - and leads the drive to bank savings
  • Work with finance/non-finance colleagues across departments on the OE implementation plan
  • Monitor and track savings vs target
  • Champion 'always on' approach to cost management using cost analytics and benchmarking

Other FP&A Initiatives

  • Provide ad-hoc support for SFM, FP&A and Director of Finance where required
  • Includes long-range planning support and analysis on significant cost drivers e.g. headcount & on-costs
  • Work closely with the Group Reporting team and Group Financial Controller to ensure cohesion and efficiency with processes and close collaboration during month and year end.
KEY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • Qualified Accountant with at least 5+ years' post qualified experience
  • Excellent communication skills both, written and verbal, able to tailor a message to the relevant audience
  • Significant experience in managing complex cost centres, building business cases and supporting the investment approval process end-to-end
  • Experience of creating and improving governance structures for investments and negotiations
  • Comfortable working in a highly results focused, complex organisation, undergoing significant change, able to work at pace
  • Excellent financial analysis and modelling skills (Advanced Excel skills, experience of data visualisation tools e.g. Power BI) is a bonus
  • Strong analytical skills; with an interest in detail but able to see the big picture
  • High levels of personal credibility, professionalism and ethical standards
  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills, able to provide robust but constructive challenge to senior leaders, business owners and executives
  • Be committed to and aligned with the Channel 4 remit

Salary: Basic salary starting at £83,344 dependant on experience

Hybrid working: From September 2023, C4 has operated a 60/40 working pattern, equating to three office days per week.
