There is currently a unique exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager for the high value and complex Dreadnought Programme. Rolls-Royce is a part of The Dreadnought Alliance that was formed in 2018. The Alliance's mission is to deliver four Dreadnought submarines for £31 billion, with the first one ready for patrol in the 2030s.

As the Finance Manager, you will manage Cost Control Finance activities for medium complexity medium risk projects or a portfolio of projects. You will be responsible for ensuring that project costs are rigorously controlled, and relevant financial and performance reporting requirements are met through the provision of specialist financial services. The Finance Manager will enable Delivery Teams and Project Managers to deliver on scope, to time and to budget.

This role would suit an experienced Finance Manager with exposure to high value, long term programmes, so a background in Defence contracts, Rail, Nuclear, Infrastructure, Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Aerospace or other sectors with exposure to complex high value programmes would be beneficial.

What you'll be doing:

  1. Provide Financial input and information at the PM/CAM monthly FOO reviews to empower stakeholder decision making.
  2. Manage the Financial input to the Annual Budget Cycle process in conjunction with Programme Manager/Project Controls Manager and with the production of the PCR forecast and the provision of Senior Leader Screening Packs.
  3. Challenge and interpret complex supply chains cost data to support accruals for multiple contract types (FP/TCIF etc.) and project forecasting.
  4. Manage the team to actively support audit and internal compliance, ensuring accruals, journals and option proposals have robust supporting evidence.
  5. Work with Estimators to develop cost models and assist in the production of Investment Appraisals.
  6. Monitor project expenditure against approval and liaise with Finance & Accounting colleagues to ensure that VAT and FOREX costs receive the correct financial treatment.
  7. Work collaboratively with Finance Business Partner (FBP) providing timely financial information for relevant Business Cases. Provide prompt evaluation of proposals, returning feedback to the PM and monitoring project cost spend against approval.
  8. Work with PM/Scheduler/PCM to implement Cost Loaded Schedules to drive forecasting.
  9. Guide the production of EVM analysis to demonstrate project performance and analyse variances to plan, determine impact on the schedule and cost to complete the scope of work. Ensure consistency with IYM and EVM reporting.
  10. Act as the Delivery Manager for Level 1 and Level 2 Cost Control Staff within the Delivery Team providing coaching and development opportunities where appropriate.
  11. Communicate complex financial performance data in a simple and understandable form to key member of the project, programme and DE&S leadership.
  12. To influence Senior Leadership within Project, DE&S and Supply chain within the Cost Control technical field.

  1. Desirable to hold a formal accountancy qualification (such as CCAB, CIMA, or AAT).
  2. Within Project focused roles individuals should hold at least one of FCF3 (Planning) or FCF4 (In Year Management).
  3. Previous experience of working within a cost or finance management environment or within a suitable analytical discipline is essential for this role.
  4. Leadership and Strong Stakeholder management capabilities.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines Business an individual has to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently already have this in place.

Due to the nature of work the Business conducts and the protection of certain assets a person has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non ITAR country.
