Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager to join our Financial Reconciliations team. The Financial Reconciliations team sits at the heart of Nationwide’s Financial Reporting and is accountable for reconciling key elements of Nationwide’s balance sheet.

As the Finance Manager in the team, you will be accountable for formulating and executing the team’s vision, ensuring that our reconciliations are fit for purpose, operating efficiently and are in line with our control framework.

You will be responsible for managing a large team of over 40 financial reconcilers providing oversight and guidance. The role is expected to provide strong leadership and strategic direction, provide accounting knowledge and build enduring stakeholder relationships.

For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our Swindon office.

You will be working in an agile environment, expected to make decisions at pace. You will understand the importance of controls in the reconciliations which we run and you’ll be able to lead the team to deliver to a high quality.

You will be demonstrating your strong leadership skills as you coordinate and lead in a fast-paced environment with a large team, multiple stakeholders and priorities.

You will be excellent at managing stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds, both internally and externally, at various levels of the organisation. You will be skilled at generating a culture of collaboration and managing conflicting accountabilities.

You’ll work closely with colleagues and senior leaders within the Financial Reconciliations team and be expected to express your opinions in a clear and professional manner. You have an important role to drive the team forward to become more controlled, effective and efficient whilst operating in line with the Society’s strategic blueprint.

Minimum Requirements
  • An experienced accountant with relevant qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • An experienced leader with management experience.
  • Able to display stakeholder management and relationship building skills, at all levels of the organisation
  • Able to make decisions independently, keeping relevant parties informed
  • Able to manage multiple conflicting priorities and identify the right course of action for the Society.
  • Financial Reconciliations experience.
  • Experience of working within a large financial services organisation

We know applying for jobs can sometimes feel like you’re sending an application into a black hole. We review each application individually. So, it’s a good idea to call out your most relevant experience on your application to give yourself the best chance.

Employee Benefits
  • A personal pension – if you put in 7% of your salary, we’ll top up by a further 16%
  • Up to 2 days of paid volunteering a year
  • Life assurance worth 8x your salary
  • A great selection of additional benefits through our salary sacrifice scheme
  • Wellhub – Access to a range of free and paid options for health and wellness.
  • Access to an annual performance related bonus
  • Access to training to help you develop and progress your career
  • 25 days holiday, pro rata

Nationwide is the world’s largest building society. With over 15 million customers, we have a relationship with almost a quarter of the UK’s population. We’ve got the scale to compete with the big banks, but we’re not a bank.

As a building society, we’re owned by our members – that’s our customers who have their current account, mortgage or savings with us. It means we can do things differently to deliver our Purpose – Banking – but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society.

When you work at Nationwide, you can experience that difference for yourself. You’ll be part of a high-performing, purpose-driven organisation that offers rewarding career experiences and a highly competitive range of benefits to match.
