Job description

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Summary

Are you a hands-on Finance Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment and loves variety in your work? Join Climate Group at a pivotal moment as we transition to a new finance system, finalise our 2025/26 budget, and wrap up year-end accounts. We're looking for someone immediately available to step into this key role and hit the ground running - bringing expertise, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit to a high-impact, mission-driven team.

This position is initially a 6-month FTC, with the possibility of extension. We will be prioritising candidates who are able to start with us as soon as possible.

About the role

This is a vital role at the heart of our Finance team, reporting to the Head of Group Financial Reporting & Control. You'll be joining us during one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year - as we complete the 2025/26 budget, prepare year-end accounts for 2024/25, and gear up to implement our new finance system in June 2025.

You'll take ownership of core finance processes across the organisation, working closely with colleagues globally. From monthly management accounts to statutory reporting, system transition, budgeting, and audit support, you'll play a key role in helping us maintain strong financial control during a period of transformation.

The role will closely supervise the work of one Finance Officer who will be line managed by the Head of Financial Reporting & Control given the fixed term contract nature of this appointment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and narrative commentary
  • Leading on balance sheet reconciliations, monthly prepayments and accruals, and managing aged debtor and creditor reports
  • Supporting our annual budget process and working closely with teams to build their budgets
  • Managing sales invoicing and monitoring credit control processes, including government grant schedules
  • Overseeing treasury operations and preparing global cash flow forecasts
  • Leading on areas of the statutory audit and supporting the preparation of the annual report and accounts
  • Supporting the implementation of our new finance system (Xledger), including configuration, data migration, and testing
  • Preparing grant expenditure reports for funders
  • Submitting quarterly VAT returns and reconciliations
  • Supporting regulatory filings with the Charity Commission and Companies House

About you

You're a confident finance professional who enjoys working across a broad remit and contributing to process improvements and team success. You're proactive, detail-focused, and comfortable juggling competing priorities in a fast-moving environment. You're also a great communicator who can explain the numbers to non-finance colleagues and enjoy building strong working relationships across teams.

We value strengths and a passion for learning - if you meet most of the criteria below, we encourage you to apply.

Essential

  • Part-qualified/fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Strong financial acumen and understanding of core accounting functions - month-end close, accruals, prepayments, accounts payable/receivable
  • Strong Excel skills, with experience working with large and complex datasets
  • Proven experience managing competing deadlines and delivering high-quality work under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across finance and non-finance teams

Desirable

  • Experience with Charity accounting, including SORP (FRS 102), and grant reporting
  • Knowledge of VAT/GST and their application in the charity sector
  • Experience working in an international context (US, EU, India, China)
  • Experience with multi-currency accounting
  • Involvement in a finance system implementation project and/or working with Xledger
