Finance Manager - 6 Month Contract

£450/day DOE

We're working in partnership with Braintree District Council to find an experienced Finance Manager to join the team on a 6-month temporary contract.

This is a key role supporting senior managers across the council - offering high-quality financial insight, driving strategic decision-making, and ensuring best practice throughout. It's a hands-on opportunity where you'll add real value from day one.

What you'll be doing:

Delivering clear, actionable financial advice to service managers and senior leaders.

Preparing and monitoring budgets, forecasting, and supporting the closure of accounts.

Challenging assumptions, driving efficiencies, and contributing to long-term financial planning.

Supporting corporate and service-based projects with robust financial analysis.

Leading on statutory returns and providing financial insight across departments.

Acting as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders - building relationships and influencing at all levels.

What we're looking for:

Fully qualified (CCAB or equivalent) - or someone with significant experience in a similar role.

A solid background in local government or wider public sector finance.

Strong knowledge of CIPFA Codes of Practice and local authority accounting principles.

Confident advising on complex financial matters and leading on key projects.

Comfortable working under pressure, juggling priorities, and hitting tight deadlines.

Advanced Excel and modelling skills, with excellent working knowledge of financial systems.

Someone who enjoys being part of a collaborative, forward-thinking finance function.
