Job description

Hutcheon Mearns are working with a small, dynamic business operating within the oil and gas services sector. Their in-house engineering capabilities and highly competent team allows them to deliver services successfully on a global scale.

This is a key role in the business. Working closely with the Managing Director and the leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the finance team, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of the financial results for the UK and the international business units. This is a role which offers plenty of challenge and the opportunity to progress towards an FD position over time.

The ideal candidate is someone who is happy to be hands on but also has the capability to step up, delivering results and driving improvement in the finance team. This is likely to be senior Management Accountant ready for the next step or an experienced SME Finance Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain management accounting and information systems in accordance with the company’s requirements and to ensure that all statutory obligations for accounting requirements are met.
  • Ensure effective cost control and recovery measures are implemented and maintained throughout the business.
  • Prepare and co-ordinate Budget and Forecasts for the business, and report on the group’s performance against budget. Identify variation and take action to highlight and resolve unsatisfactory performance where necessary.
  • Prepare cashflow statements daily and monitor daily and monthly cashflow, keeping up to date for management review.
  • Ensure that sales, purchase, and nominal ledgers are maintained daily, and all associated activities are progressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the efficient operation of credit control.
  • Regularly evaluate performance data, identify opportunities for improvement, define and implement improvements and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Oversee all tax, legal, statutory and regulatory compliance issues, liaising with 3rd party accounting firm.
  • Prepare and monitor project costs.
  • Prepare and validate month end closing process, including posting of JVs and reconciliation of accounts and statements (AP/AR/Bank reconciliation etc).
  • Manage third party invoice finance provider, including monthly reconciliations.
  • Manage the team overseeing their daily tasks, setting objectives and reviewing their performance.
Background and Experience
  • Significant experience in a financial environment in a small International business.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Excellent Organisational and Planning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - written and verbal.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to delivery schedules.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Flexible and motivated.
  • Assures adherence to all QHSE regulations.
